how do you know she was fine? If you watch the play on TV she was struggling to get up during the play. if you go by her giving the R1 a thumbs up any top athlete knows to do that or they may be pulled out. I don’t. I was there in attendance and watched her finish the play, proceed to be quite persistent she was fine while smiling and laughing to her team, then proceeded to do the same to the coach that came over to confirm with her, then watched her do the same to the up official. I guess concussions I’ve seen normally don’t pose that same response. OnE of the trainers was checking on her and went to tell Cook. In the post game Cook told JB Lauenstein had been sick with flu or a virus. I just thought maybe she got that? I missed the shot from Smrek.

My mom always said,” if you’re really good you don’t have to brag about it.” Willing to bet your mom never said that. My dad always said "Lombardi would've won this game" and I had to remind him that he died in the 70s. You would lose that bet Peter

The trainer was checking on her frequently after the headshot. She tried eating something shortly before running to the trash can. It’s a bad look happening after the headshot but I’ll take the opinion of a paid medical professional examining her over an idea they wanted her in to try and push for a 5th set.

I really hope Hames is okay and it’s just a GI bug or some food that didn’t agree with her in the moment. The latter can happen easily - I remember once Wisconsin had to swap setters mid-set because their starter drank some under-diluted Gatorade during an TO annd it made her puke.
Concussions are nasty business and there’s a growing body of data showing they are worse in women. I’ve seen so many careers ruined due to repeat concussions in volleyball.
Crossing my fingers for Hames.

Question: why doesn’t Nebraska get Whitney the ball more? she is so error prone sometimes, even on decent sets she’ll just spray a ball out of bounds She was also a game time decision due to illness. Don’t think it changed the outcome, but rough week for NU and don’t see MN being any easier. Hope Hames isn’t concussed or Ill either as she was seen vomiting during 4th set…

I feel like the NE and WI fans have been mostly classy on this thread but the fans of other teams have been trashy. So knock it off!

Just got back from the game. Congrats to Wisconsin. Always seem to pull out their best when they play Nebraska. I thought the difference tonight was 2nd ball. Wisconsin’s setters we’re just so much better than Nebraska’s. They won a lot of the sloppy plays, too. I was really proud of Batenhorst. I was unaware Knuckles was injured before match, and that’s a big hit to the defense. She’s been back there for 4 years and I know Ally shanked a couple SR but I still think it’s promising for her future. I was hoping to see Kubik really step up at times when they needed someone to and she just didn’t. Krause looked phenomenal. When Hames got hit in the head she was fine. I’d be way more concerned with all of her floor dives that that hit to the head.. Another one tomorrow. GBR. Agreed, I’m concerned she has whatever Whitney has had since they said they didn’t know if she’d be able to play due to illness…not match changing I don’t think, but if Nicklin and Kenzie are both out against MN that’d be troublesome…I’m sure Hames will tough it out if she can.

I missed the shot from Smrek last night in person so went back and watched this morning. It was at about 7-7 in the 3rd and Hames really didn’t seem too fazed in the moment but hoping that is still true after the adrenaline wore off…Jolene (trainer) did go back to locker room with her during the 4th so I’d hope they did the concussion tests with her.

They didn't stop the game long enough to do proper concussion tests. Which should have happened right after the head shot. Not after an extended period of time.
