2019 PAC team gets screwed for a mid-major that did nothing to earn an at large Committee chair: We like that VCU had no losses under 100 2022: Ball State - 3 losses under 100 UCLA has no losses under 100 Committee chair: Like I keep saying, they have so many possible criteria that they can make pretty much any decision they want and find some excuse to justify it. Happens every year.

At the end of the day, you can either justify worse résumé with a better RPI, or a better résumé with a worse RPI, but in this case, Texas State has a better résumé and better RPI. That’s what makes this one unique.

Not the most popular girl at the dance, for sure. And the guy bringing her, Sealy, well, got a bit of a target on his back these days as well. Ball State looks bright, shiny, and new by comparison... and their fanbase appreciation for their volleyball programs, freshair compared to the disgruntle around UCLA. Certainly none of this is proper selection criteria, but around the bubble, other factors, and Regional Advisory input, seem to get expansive consideration and weighting, and committee bias has room to make a statement.

Can you provide a short summary of what the committee did different from you? My quick glance from the top - it sounds like Marquette getting a seed over Rice (which I believe was probably an either-or proposition). Nebraska #7 and Minnesota #8 - I would have thought this would be flipped, but again very minor and one that educated people could disagree. I see UCLA didn't make it - Ball State did. What else was there? Thx.

I love Bracketology, but every year, I always feel so awful for trojansc because he puts so much work into these, follows all the rules and criteria to a T and the Committee is still like EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR! 😭😭😭

That is my mental image of the committee reading some of the threads on VT.

Ball State is a head-scratcher. But none of the teams that should have gotten in ahead of Ball State were completely confident of making it in. Lots of bubble teams.
2019 Cal was the biggest injustice ever imo, as everyone was absolutely sure they were in. Then the committee just decided to skip the rules, and put in someone else. Cal is not my team, but I was heartbroken for them. Totally deserved to be in.

I, too, would like a list of trojan's biggest head-scratchers.
There were some really doozies this year.

Does anyone else want Colorado State to get in? Where is speegs13 This is a weird bubble year. There aren't any real presence of Texas State, Auburn, Tennessee, LMU, Colorado State fans out there on VolleyTalk. I guess a few Tennessee stans. Then you have the UCLA fans who probably will take getting left out of the tournament bid to can Sealy, the Michigan fans who are like yeah, that Iowa loss, we'll just call it a close on this year. I'll give it to the Northwestern hopefuls though. I'm here! Been busy with a new job so I haven’t been near VT for a few weeks. CSU had a weird second-half of their conference. I'm not sure what happened, but it felt like something changed with the team when they lost to both Boise State and SJSU at home during conference. I thought on paper, they had some nice wins to begin with (Colorado, UNC, FGCU, and UNLV), but they weren't looking like a tournament team at the end. I'm sad the Hilbert-era ended with the loss to SDSU - however, I am curious to see what the program will be like going forward and what the new coach can bring in.

LOL this is a new one - Auburn is in because they had 5 wins in the 51-100 range. I don’t think I can listen to that. I’m not ready. It's also really disappointing that a sport with only one media outlet just decides to only lob softballs to the Committee Chair and ask no real follow up questions.
