San Diego nearly took home all the hardware for the 2022 West Coast Conference Volleyball all-conference awards, as the Conference announced its major award winners and all-conference teams on Monday. The lone major award winner not from USD was Emily Hellmuth of Pepperdine [far right] who was named the 2022 WCC Freshman of the Year.

I guess the good thing about this pairing is it will be much more competitive than the other top seed matches.

Pepperdine may not be a cupcake, but Stanford should have no trouble winning the match.

Pepperdine may not a cupcake, but Stanford should have no trouble winning the match. I'll go farther. It would be a complete embarrassment for Stanford to lose this match. That said, if it goes 4 or 5 sets I don't think that's any reason for alarm. Just need to win. How it looks doesn't matter. That second round is no picnic compared to other #1 seeds, either. Hawaii in particular is a scary opponent for a #1 seed in the second round. I'd like to see Francis return sooner rather than later as long as she's healthy. It would be worse in my opinion to rush her and risk a setback than to make sure she's as healthy as possible before returning to the court, but obviously time is at a premium.

Crossing fingers to see a tall, blonde wall in the middle on the Stanford side of the net!

If Ahrens was still there, Pepperdine might have a shot. But without her, this should be a Stanford sweep. Maybe 3-1.

Stanford shouldn’t be counting any chickens when they recently dropped sets to Oregon State, Arizona State, and Utah. And went five with a Sky-less USC. Will they/should they win? Probably. But let’s not act like they haven’t shown vulnerability

Stanford beats almost anyone if Baird/Kipp go off at the same time. Problem is, that usually doesn’t happen.

I'd expect a Stanford win.
But, it's criminal that Stanford has to face Pepperdine on day one.

I'd say this is unfair to Pepperdine too, even if they were one of the last at-larges. There's a lot of 6-8 seeds I think they could beat.
