Would love to see Bartsch join the Illini as an assistant coach. She moved from Champaign to Columbus several months ago.

That’s good. I’d still like to see her join the coaching staff.

S/Opp Hendricksen from FL to Pepperdine. There is one off the board if we were targeting an option for a 6-2. Anyone have any intel on who we might be targeting. Was Krista responsible for getting Huerta to IN befire she de committed and went to PSU?

Was Krista responsible for getting Huerta to IN befire she de committed and went to PSU? Krista was Indiana's recruiting coordinator when Hurta committed there, so I'd think she had a primary role in her recruitment. Also, Hurta de-committed from Indiana like a month and a half after Krista left- Vansant announced as Illinois coach around January 10 and Hurta changed commitment around February 26. If we want to ascribe significance to the timing of those two events, maybe Krista's departure contributed to Hurta switching her commitment. The recent chatter on VT about Hurta is that she's not seeking to play setter wherever she's transferring. She's entered the portal as a pin hitter. There are only three outside hitters projected to be on our roster next season: Raina, Stephenson, and de Boer. I think we need to get a pin hitter from the portal this offseason. We'll already have three setters on the roster next year: Brooke, May, and Imoto-Eakin. Does Tamas recruit Hurta as a pin hitter? Does he recruit her as a setter, with three already on the roster?

If his plans are to try and run a 6-2 with both setters on the floor all the way around, maybe Huerta can be convinced to set & play Opp. Burbage can move to the left and shore up the depth on the pins. All depends on who in the portal might want to consider coming to ILL. Not familiar with her style of play. Did she hit in club or just set? I know she was highly ranked, similar to Mica Allison.

We obviously need a back up setter/practice setter so their will always be a spot for one. Running a 5-1 with a 5’9” and under setter is not good. We saw what Raina did to Grome from Kentucky. Especially with the size of the OH’s in the Big 10, 5’9” (if that) blocking the OH will be a disaster!

She played S/Opp. Maybe Krista & Tamas can convince her to to one or both and come to ILL. Sounds like she can pass/block and play D. Come home Katie!!!!

I never said anything about not needing practice setters in the gym and I never suggested we run a 5-1 with someone who's 5'9". Where are you getting either of those things from what I posted?

There are worse things than having a 6’1” pin hitter who can move into the setting position if your setter (god forbid) twists an ankle. Despite our difficulties in recruiting pin hitters, they are easier to replace than setters big enough to block.

In the State championship match Hurta had 41 swings and hit .341. One other Nazareth player had a positive hitting number, hitting .038. Everyone else on the team had a negative hitting number. I don’t know how the 3A championship match translates to the B1G, but at that level she was dominant, at least in one match.
