Gonna have to be the portal, besides like Autumn Bailey way back when, Marquette’s top players usually take time to develop, they’re not top-100 players. Allie Barber, Taylor Louis, Jenna Rosenthal etc. took some time to develop. They end up being really solid players, but the window is next two years. Who wouldn't want to play with Achante serving? Not sure what kind of recruiter Theis is, but he has a lot of program momentum he's building on right now. It hasn't gotten nearly as much play on Volleytalk as it deserves, but that fiserv deal with Wisconsin is HUGE! Creates the same kind of dynamic that Nebraska-Creighton have. That's going to generate a LOT of talk next year. If other schools would invest some more in their volleyball programs, I don't think it would take much for the Big East to become another power conference in volleyball the way they are in basketball.

See that’s the thing, as every year goes by, the harder I find it that Marquette will be able to keep Theis around. Marquette is an awesome program for what it is, but if a Big Ten school comes calling, you’d be crazy not to take it if you’re Theis.
When Bond left for Iowa, I thought that was the end of Marquette volleyball, but here we are 10 years later and haven’t missed a tourney besides the COVID year. I don’t expect lightning to strike twice.

It's giving "I'm petty and have no friends" It's certainly giving idgaf. Not sure what I have to prove to you. Don't care. I'll admit I failed to recognize my audience. Not the first time. Won't be the last. Some kinds of humor are better received in some places than others. But just because so many people here didn't find it even remotely amusing, and flat out grossly offensive, doesn't mean it changes my view. There's a strong contrarian urge in me that often finds it even funnier when people don't receive my humor well, although my intent is more to be edgy and create sharp gasps of a kind of "did he just say that?" than it is to truly make people walk away not wanting to have anything to do with me. Although that's certainly okay, too. But there's also a little bit of I should be seeking some kind of approval or permission from some of you that's not compelling in the slightest, either. But I'm good with you saying your piece. I'm glad you've had an opportunity to register your disapproval. wow

Basketball has way more east coast kids to recruit. Volleyball doesnt. And going international is so hit and miss (St johns)

Womens soccer was a conference title contender (in the old big east) and a perennial s16 contender for awhile. Couple of bad cycles, haven’t been the same since. Its e why the basketball program will always survive, it has that historical prestige. It’s not a money issue, that athletic department is loaded.

Yeah, I look forward to Marquette actually having a chance for success in men's basketball once you hire your next coach.

That first set was prison rape. This is inappropriate! Be better, people. I'll delete these kinds of posts in the future. It’s not “people.” Just me. If you’ll look at the thread, it wasn’t exactly a popular comment I want to assure you, you can delete anything I ever post and I will not be bothered. If I post something that a mod considers out of bounds, by all means get it out of here. It’s my opinion one of the strengths of this forum is its light touch on moderation, but that’s not the same thing as no moderation. You couldn’t pay me enough to be a moderator. Glad there are folks willing to take on that challenge. A sincere thanks for doing it.

there were some nice moments and there are some really nice pieces need to find better passing out of someone and might wanna look for a real opposite instead of Foti, unless she develops might not even need the portal depending on the recruiting class Foti is their backup setter... so they definitely need someone lol I dont know who their 2023s are... but they'll hit the portal I think. They might not need the portal for that. They had five freshmen this year (one red shirted) who, now that they've had a year's worth of experience, could grow into some of those spots.

If other schools would invest some more in their volleyball programs, I don't think it would take much for the Big East to become another power conference in volleyball the way they are in basketball. This is KBB's position also. She said a couple months ago that given the strong academic profile of BE schools and their location in urban centers, the BE is poised to break out as one of the top volleyball conferences. What it would take, according to KBB, is more investment in assistant coaching salaries, recruiting budget, and travel budget. As avid 2.0 pointed out, the east coast is more basketball-centric, which is why KBB has specifically stated that Xavier and Butler (the midwestern schools other than DePaul, which is already investing) could be the next two (in addition to Creighton and Marquette) to reach national status, if only they were willing to invest. Its e why the basketball program will always survive, it has that historical prestige. It’s not a money issue, that athletic department is loaded. This is the opposite position - that success in the BE is coach-dependent and Marquette has been good because "lightning has struck twice" with Bond and Theis. Creighton fans are very interested in the same question - Are Marquette and Creighton going to be able to sustain their success post-coach? - because KBB won't stay forever. Interestingly, you state that money isn't the issue, that you need "historical prestige" as well, without it you can get to the S16 for a while but bad cycles will end it. So, what does VT think? Are Marquette and Creighton one or two-hit coaching wonders, or are they going to lead the BE into power conference status?

Hats off to Marquette on a great year. Being there in person it’s hard to describe the blitz they experienced from the fans and Texas in set 1 & 2. Good on them maintaining focus and putting it on Texas in the 3rd.
