It was an oddity that the recruiting class was the "best class of any sport, all time" as was being reported. The numbers were what they were. None of that guaranteed success, which is what some people apparently thought.

I was thinking this same thing. At what point do we start talking about the setting coach? Even their "good" sets are moon balls, and I can't think of a team with worse connections to the middles. ... But there is absolutely nothing wrong with this team that good setting won't fix. We've always been a moon ball team. That had a chance to change with Hildebrandt imho, but with him gone, Cook is going back to run what he knows. (and has worked for him) The moon ball is going obsolete. The game has evolved to the point where high, slow sets to the outside are being controlled more often than not. We do need a change in the offense, even if Reilly can deliver perfect moon ball sets. Blockers are bigger, faster and they take up more space. We havent had success offensively against an above average blocking team these last two years lol

Andi Jackson wasnt ranked at all last summer (or the one before?).. commits to Nebraska... oh look she's top 30 now. mess.

Remember when we finally started pushing some to Madi in fall 2021 and her offense got better?? yea that died this year. Batenhorst doesnt have a high enough contact point for moonballs

I know the hitters still have to make plays, but the offensive system used certainly wasn’t for this batch of hitters. In fact, there’s a few hitters in the past years that would’ve benefited from an offense with better tempo, but i digress

But right now we are still losing (mostly) to other moon ball teams (Wisconsin, Texas, Stanford, etc) who basically do but we do but better. But yeah, our hitting % the last two years has been sub-par. Assuming we have the personnel we think we do, maybe it's time to change something up.

Texas is a good example of a team thats changed their system up a bit. They run tempo more often than Nebraska which would sound weird to say 5 years ago

Sounds like those who do the ranking don’t know much and just go by accolades and offers. You’d think a 6’5” girl who can get her shoulders above the tape would deserve to be ranked, regardless of commitment.

Batenhorst doesnt have a high enough contact point for moonballs I so much agree with this. Batenhorst improved immensely, but her arm swing still bugs me. Her elbow is so low when she makes contact. Takes a couple of inches away from all the length she has. Her contact point could be higher for sure! The setting got a bad rap but honestly, I've watched a lot of other teams this season and their pins are more consistently terminal, even out of system, so I am not sure the setting is 100% the problem. We have excellent passing and defense. I just have no idea if the chemistry/setter-hitter connections could ever go from good to great this year with the ever rotating line-ups. I understand the 6-2 for the size on the block and extra attacker, but a 5-1 usually helps the setter-hitter connections stay strong, which all armchair coaches seem to think was the problem. Our pins are good players but not consistently terminal, which will make things very interesting when the new pins get added in January.

What's wild to me is how Nebraska has so many of the top OH recruits yet don't have a single one who can terminate, and then teams like Oregon stumble into Colyer
