I hope Wrobel is able to take a step forward today. Sheffield sounded so excited for the competition level and TTA + Franklin out...seems like a perfect time to seize the moment.🤞🏾

Oh, good. Good news, then. Congrats to her. That’s a big deal. I’m glad she’s able to celebrate it! Thank you for the response.

Punzel article of the first Italy match (La Crosse newspaper, because it was the one I didn't hit a paywall the first time I tried): lacrossetribune.com/sports/college/volleyball/wisconsin-volleyball-carter-booth-nba-finals/article_7ea831eb-f65f-5188-a70e-467d8220892a.htmlThe Italian team is preparing for the World University Games, so probably some real talent there. MJ served 11 points in a row in the 4th set. Orzol 13 kills, Booth 11, Smrek and Robinson 9 each (The opposite of 'All Temi, all the time' the other day). Wrobel 4 kills, 5 errors on 13 swings. About Wrobel, Sheffield said “Against most of the really good teams she’s been off on the sideline. She’s gotten a little bit of time when we’ve had a comfortable lead or she’s gotten in for a short burst. This was a time where it’s no, you’re staying in there, you’ve got to figure this thing out. There was a lot of the match where it was a little too much for her. That’s why we play matches like this because now you’re forced to respond and it pulls really good things out. This was a really important match for her.”
These are the participants in the collegiate held in Milan June 2-14. They will probably be the same ones who will face Wisconsin twice and Ohio St. once.
Setter: Rachele Morello, Giulia Gennari, Gaia Guiducci; OH: Rebecca Piva, Federica Carletti, Beatrice Gardini, Emma Cagnin; Opposite: Binto Diop e Giorgia Frosini; MB: Emma Graziani, Agnese Cecconello e Benedetta Sartori; Libero: Martina Armini, Eleonora Fersino, Sara Panetoni
They are U21s from A2/A1 (those from A1 probably played little or nothing in the league). Some of this won the European title (nations) against Serbia 10 months ago.

Rematch going on with the Italian National Team right now. Here's video of yesterday's match: I see that the video is "unlisted": do I have permission to copy this link to other blogs/forums?

what business does fersino have competing in this? also, some are over 21 and are starters or saw significant playing time in a1.

I looked up some of the names on this list, and they were in the 23 yo range, not 21. The ones playing A2 were playing significant time for their teams.

As long as playing against them doesn't cause any sort of 'professional' eligibility problem with UW players, or some such, what does it matter? I expect Sheffield would say the tougher the competition, the better he likes it.

I'm not explicitly familiar with the rules in volleyball, but U21 rules for many Euro team sports championships involve turning 21 sometime after the previous iteration of the competition ends. Some players are therefore older than 21 at the time the U21 competition begins. I think the idea is to make sure no one falls between the cracks in terms of dates. In U21 leagues, they often allow a few older players play, ostensibly to serve a mentorship role, though it's often just to get previously injured players some game time.

Also, almost all of the sets were really close. It makes you wonder how UW would have done with TTA. I think she would be good for a couple of points in each of these sets, which would change the overall outcome of the games.
