I posted this at some point after the match: "I'm not minimizing those achievements. My assessment was in this context; " ... when the lights were the brightest ...". IMO, that would be Pitt in 2022 and Texas in 2023.
Only the players and coaches know if surpassing some rivals and getting on the podium is good enough. Or, do they think it's Natty or bust with the talent they have?" Kelly's take on "Natty or bust" as quoted above is the definitive answer to my question. As a fan, I have a very narrow perspective based on self-interest. It seems clear to me now that the players and coaches have a much broader, more holistic view. Good for them; it no doubt enhances their student athlete experience. I will benefit by broadening my perspective. GO BADGERS
Yes you will. How many of the 300+ volleyball teams in DI have made it to 3 FF in the last five years? It doesn't help when the fans go immediately into trade talk five minutes after the Badgers lose, as if these players are not humans. How many teams have goneto 3 FF in the last five years? You mean four FF in the last five? 2019, 2020/2021 spring, 2021, 2023. As for three, I think its Pitt and Texas and Wisconsin.

Actually, I think I will benefit most by remembering to refrain from posting on a board where an honest admission of "Hey, I was probably wrong" is met by self-righteous indignation and a lecture. Really, who needs it. Pat yourself on the back and return to patrolling the thread for violations.

I didn't mean to call you out for trade talks. I don't know if you even did. It was more that I was stating you weren't alone in the Championship or bust mindset.
I guess since I've been around a bit I can appreciate how far they've come and so when they win Big Ten championships and go to FF and even Elite 8 I am happy. Of course, not satisfied, but it's not fair to launch into who to get rid of and who to poach because someone had a bad match.
So it's more my frustration with the new NIL/transfer era rather than the development of the athlete.
So I apologize if you took it personally. It wasn't the intent.
I've gotten less and less interested in the sport because of this new era, so I need a reset too to the new reality.

but I still think a tweak or two could have potentially altered the beatdown trend. Trying not to chime in on the 2023 any further, as Texas has clearly demonstrated that they’re the #1 team and it’s not even close. There was no pushing of the buttons that was going to work with our minimal depth. John Cook tried to make some adjustments with his bench of former top recruits, and it just got worse. So no, we did our best but we ran into a buzzsaw this year.
