I don't know if its fair to say GG will never be that good. Give the true freshmen a break. I've been quite critical of GG all year, but its clear she has talent and potential. I remember Clarke looking quite so-so her first year at Wisconsin before improving greatly after that. GG is not only a true frosh but she arrived to Wisconsin just before the season began. I do have faith that she has the most upside of any player at Wisconsin. Now hoping for improvement with Izzy or MJ, ehhh that is wishful thinking. I guess they could get better chemistry with their hitters with another off season. I have confidence saying she will never be Zoe Fleck or Scott. Sorry. I believe passing is not a skill easily learned. If it was, you'd see a lot more 6 rotation outsides. Passing is likely the hardest skill to master and requires so much hand-eye I just don't see it happening. Long line of players who have tried...and failed in mastering passing. Hope she proves me wrong. As someone who played libero. Players who reach the D1 level at libero don't have much a skill gap in terms of serve receive (defense is a different matter, as that is the ability to read and react which is something that can't just be taught), its mostly mental. For GG especially, you can see when she got rattled mentally and her passing plummeted. But as GG clearly has very sound defensive skills, and very good ball control based on her bump setting, I do believe that she has Fleck level ceiling if she is able to develop the right mentality. That is a tall order, but from a skill stand point, there is nothing holding her back.

Let's not forget GG's first language is not English AND she is a freshman AND she is living in a new country AND she is the starting libero on a team that won the NC and she's playing in front of 7400 fans.
No biggie, right?
Try just one of the things and see how you do.

I've seen too many players who were skilled at everything else fail to pass with reps for hours a day.

Some of you have never, in your life, played vb outside of a YMCA or church gym. While you may understand the game, you've never played it, nor coached it at a high level. Thanks for your opinion. I have my doubts, based on experience, that GG will ever be a top-tier passing libero, and as a result you choose to call me "the worst badger fan." I haven't begrudged you your opinion; I'd ask you afford me the same courtesy. Believe me, I hope I am wrong.

That would be really bad news for Turkey, because they are planning on her anchoring their National team when she’s done here.
I think she will benefit greatly from the off-season strength & conditioning program and even more from working directly with Brit & the coaching staff. She basically got off the plane and onto the court last year with zero practice time.

I think it's very safe to assume improvement from GG next year. Likely significant improvement. It had to be extremely difficult for her to come in the way she did at the last minute this summer and compete at the highest of levels. I would expect a strong offseason and significant improvements next year for her. The physical skills are there. Getting mentally there and adjusting to living in foreign country where she doesn't speak the native language has to be an incredible adjustment. This should be an excellent offseason for her.
What about Sage coming in? Any transfers? What if we're running a 5-1 (with a transfer Setter) instead of a 6-2 next year? Then we would have more subs for a DS for our OHs. So many variables.

Yup, they both improved a ton year over year. Neither of them were passing sub 2...ever. I don't think that is true. I remember distinctly being told (by bwf?) that Barnes passed sub two her first year as a DS for the badgers. That was when we were looking forward to life without Clark and Dodge and before Civita signed on. I chalked it up to the difficulty of managing the seam between her and Loberg -- when badgers were essentially passing with 2.5 - because she passed pretty well one year at Minnesota. Clark was not very good to begin. Maybe not sub 2, but problematic, and one thing she definitely could not do was set OOS. Man she was terrible at that in the beginning. They had rotated other players to take second ball. GG has shown in some matches that she can pass well. She needs consistency, and she needs to learn how to reset and calm herself when one gets away from her so things don't spiral out of hand. Orzol had to learn that too her first year.
