I am sad to see that Jade is leaving. But nobody is really surprised. Beyond the volleyball team, she remains a remarkable person and a fantastic Wisconsin Badger. I wish her the very best. The team will remain in great shape with the current core. Personally, I see Smrek moving back to her natural position in the middle, and have high hopes for Wrobel to solidify a role on the right and to join AA DevRob. I can't help but dream about Ella finding her groove, and denting the floor with her BB arm, like I enjoyed watching her do during her club years. Can't wait. Honestly, would be better to have Wrobel play front row for Julia & have Julia play back row for Wrobel. Recruit a new middle from transfer portal & Devyn + Smrek on right side. Putting Crawford at Middle & incoming transfer.

Also am I doing my math wrong or do we now have room to bring in an additional four players via the portal? Not sure how many schollies we have left. I’d assume an outside, MB and a DS or two?

2-3, by my math. A lot of the smalls are on partials and it’s unclear who’s on which year.

It's hard being a fan in the age of transfers. I'm kind of depressed. Was hoping to see Jade on the RS. I agree that whether Robinson stays on the RS depends on whether they pick up a middle transfer. Yeah it starts to feel like MLB.

Rosters are more fluid than ever, but I'd say this is the prospective team in 2024.
mj, crawford, frank, orzol, smrek, devyn gg, wrobel damrow charlie, tosia, trinity
You add the three scholarships players in 2024 and Izzy comes off. So, for 2023, I'd say they have two in play, assuming no further attrition. Thus, they could easily add one or two scholarship transfers, but if they are more than 1-year players, you are assuming one of the six from the top line above doesn't use their last available year with the badgers.
Unless an elite six-rotation setter or another crawford falls in their laps, I'd wouldn't feel bad at all about running the current group back with a couple a grad transfer added for depth. That said, I'm imagine there will be a surprise or two thrown in the mix.

That said, I'm imagine there will be a surprise or two thrown in the mix. Here's how I'm looking at it. One scholarship is for sure available, probably another for one year (and maybe one more). If we are running a 6-2 then GG/Boyer/Damrow/Reed is plenty of depth at libero/DS, and with setter you really only need an emergency option so it may be possible to recruit "academically"; e.g. find a small-conference starter who wants to use their last year at Wisconsin in order to get into one of our good grad programs. So we only need hitters, and we have a lot of options. Devyn can play right or middle as can Smrek, and actually Franklin is an option to move to the right as well. But since we are already set with six players who can start (Wrobel will be good enough to start if no one is added) we only need to add for depth or to get another elite hitter or two. Thus I conclude that Sheffield will use his scholarships to go after the best hitters available in the portal, whether left side, middle, or right.

Is there confirmation Demps is in the portal or is it just because Barreau is stalking her?
If some official posting is somewhere on VT, I apologize in advance.
I see AnnaMac in the portal too if not officially mentioned.

Gary and TTA now mutually follow each other. A guy can dream. Frank and TTA on the left, Orzol at depth or in back row. Let’s get it.
If the Badgers are staying in a 6-2, there will continue to be a lot of OOS that way and they can’t just be tipped or rolled. Let’s TERMINATE.

If Sheff were to land TTA, then we would know his team building philosophies have shifted away from a development model toward more of a free agent model. I guess it’s inevitable. I mean, how else are you going to compete in this day and age?
But I lose a lot of the connection to the team in the process. I love volleyball and I don’t mind winning at it, but it’s the stories of the players as they develop and mature over time that really tie me to a particular program. That always made the winning worth something.

That always made the winning worth something. I think he's done it right with CC & Frank, with them both being here for more than 1 year (ie Clark, Barnes, Boyer). There's likely a need for one puzzle piece for next year, and for just one year, otherwise there's a 2024 logjam again. I don't see a ton of one-and-done type players coming to The Dungeon in the near future.

I wondering if once the Covid eligibility cycles through some of the one and done ends.
Although I was happy we had Bramscreiber.
But to Badgerbreath's point, let's hope for a new Danielle Hart/Haleigh Nelson out there at least somewhere as a new recruit someday.
