Yesss, pitt the past few years has had to really be balanced & use their middles a lot to compete with teams, but that 2023 class has some athletic pins with height. Fairbanks is about have those freshman looking like 1st team all Americans. So excited to watch them next year, especially Stafford and Bayless. so excited for the future of Pitt. H2P Plus, it's just nice to see another conference come along and be consistently strong. No the ACC doesn't have the pedigree and history of the B1G 10, PAC-12, and they have no championships. But, they've come so far - and the big thing is, it's not just one team.

Likely Mansfield, right? I also assume the AD has already thought about it/has a succession plan in place given Cook's put himself on the market a few times in the past few years. How do you know if/when a coach enters the portal?

No, he's now a tertiary coach.

Jason Mansfield, Tama Miyashiro, and Leslie Gabriel seem like a dream team

Jen Cohen always has a list of potential coaches for every sport.

My guess is that the Mansfield gets the job. And he may end up being great.
Right now, attracting a head coach in the PAC is probably more difficult than it's been because of the uncertain future of the conference itself.
But, IMO, it would be nice if UW would put a priority on diversity and think about female/POC.

That would be ideal! I hope UW is pushing to get out of the Pac-12. I know talks of that have died down but wow, we will be unable to keep up if this continues.

Would it be normal to promote the assistant over the Associate Head Coach-Leslie Gabriel? I have to think they'd ask. So if Leslie doesn't get it, it's because she didn't want it.

Washington has consistently under-performed the last few years. Elevating Mansfield and playing in a weakened PAC 12 might even out if they're lucky, but Washington should really set their sights higher. You could have said this of Cook when Jim left, but Cook did a great job. I’m not qualified to say whether Mansfield is good or not. If I were mak8ng the decision, my first call would be to Gabriel to see if she’s changed her mind and wants it this time. If she says no, my second call is to Gabriel to see if she has anybody she wants to work with. Realistically she knows better than anybody else at UW who the candidates should be. I do wonder whether Thompson has enough assistant experience to be a HC yet, but it is my fantasy that she comes back to win us another national championship.

I remember Courtney Thompson being interviewed sometime shortly winning the title and talking about her desire to become a college athletic direcctor. Maybe she's changed her mind and would like to be a head coach. The other ex-Husky who's been coaching is Vansant.

Right. Forgot. Good choice. Also I feel like bringing in Team USA's passing guru (and Team USA does pass lights out) is probably a good fix for what has ailed UW recently.
