I was so happy to see Grant back on the court this weekend. Her stepping back into the libero role made such a difference against OSU on Sunday. Everyone seemed to play with a lot more confidence defensively than I've seen them play all season.
Maybe I'm being optimistic but I can see as many as five more wins on the calendar (Iowa, Maryland, Rutgers, Illinois, Indiana) for this season. Again, it is optimistic, but with Grant back my confidence is much higher (even with shaky pins).
If its me, I'm making sure a scholarship is available for Grant to return if she chooses. Her play and leadership are going to be needed (and we've seen that there is not a libero on the current roster).
Let's get two this weekend! Go Blue

It's been a very encouraging two weekends at home for Michigan, registering 3 consecutive wins after playing very tough against Penn State. Can one player really make that much of a difference? It's hard to ignore the results since Hannah Grant's return to the lineup.
The other big move of course was the replacement of Scottee Johnson at setter with freshman Morgan Burke. Burke has been terrific, distributing the ball across the offense, playing solid defense and serving tough. But she's also been the beneficiary of vastly improved passing with Grant anchoring the back row. As much as she contributes with her digs and passing, Grant is providing the floor leadership the team desperately needed. Everyone is playing better around her and it's great to see Erin Virtue's team finally gelling and showing some consistency.
A month ago, it didn't look like this team could beat anybody in the conference. But the young players have found their footing and are beginning to shine. What was an extremely frustrating season has finally shown signs of hope.
Go Blue!

Ok, so anyone can see the remarkable improvement for Michigan the past month, but that only hi-lights the bigger problem for the program and it’s part time coach. The part time head coaching experience at Michigan needs to end today.
Moving forward, why would a recruit sign with Michigan next week?…Why would anyone who enters the portal sign with Michigan?…. Why would anyone on the current roster not enter the portal in December? Based on this year, next year is going to sacrificed.
It’s time for this part time coach to resign from her USNT activities, re-commit to Michigan and accept that this part time coaching experiment has not served the interest of the Michigan volleyball team. If the Michigan administration holds even a low level of value for the volleyball program, they will agree.
This season is is a dumpster fire no matter what happens in the next 6 matches, and it is clear now, that is a direct result of the part time head coach spending the precious time from the day she was hired last January until October working in her primary job with the national team and sub contracting her head coaching duties to her assistant coaches. .
And not to state the obvious, but the same thing will happen next summer until mid August.
So this season was sacrificed so the part time coach could repeat what she already did two years ago? Huh? So next year will be sacrificed so she can win another medal AS A ASSISTANT COACH? Huh? IS her ego so big that her ambitions-as an assistant coach, trump the hopes and aspirations of the players on the Michigan volleyball team? Just what would adding another gold medal as an assistant coach add to her resume or ability to coach the Michigan volleyball team? Doesn’t she owe it to the 2024 Michigan volleyball team to resign from her position with the national team so that the 2024 season isn’t a repeat of the 2023 season(the current dumpster fire)?
Clearly, the senior seasons of those on this 2023 team are considered expendable by this part time coach and the Michigan administration(in addition to a season of every other player on the roster). . Why on earth would either Boney, Valuet or Burke stay so this part time coach can sacrifice another year of their college volleyball experience?
Oh, and this part time coach can go wandering all around B1G media days all she wants telling everyone they can come to her office in Ann Arbor to see “her” Olympic gold medal, but the last time I looked there are at least two actual members of that gold medal winning Tokyo Olympic team (the ones who actually played) coaching in the B1G-and one who can show a silver and bronze to sit beside her gold. I don’t understand why any administration would be so irresponsible as to allow this.
Maybe Michigan administrators thought she could just do some sign stealing and everything would work out, but it hasn’t. This part time coach needs to grow up and accept the responsibility she has undertaken and stop sacrificing competition years of her Michigan players. Players like Murray, Johnson, Jacobs, and Boney came to Michigan because they had made the NCAA tournament 17 out of 20 years, they don’t deserve to have years of their careers sacrificed to the ego of a part time coach… but you all know this… 🏐

What was an extremely frustrating season has finally shown signs of hope. Go Blue! I'm glad the staff made the switch to Burke full-time. We have seen Johnson's play with better passing than was happening this season and it was subpar at best. The fact that the offense ran so much better with Dowd last season should have made that point clear, but alas, it has been great to see what Burke can do with the much improved passing. I continue to hope that there are three more wins on the schedule. Would love to see an upset along the way, but just being competitive over the final six games feels like a step in the right direction.

Anybody know if Hannah Grant and Kendall Murray have a Covid year of eligibility left? They both do but both of their scholarships are up as well. Returning seniors will be a big question mark for next season. If Virtue has a scholarship available I would imagine it would go to Grant if she wants to take a victory lap.

Glad to hear that Grant has another year of eligibility at least. She really deserves to have a full final season.
