They are close to landing a middle transfer An impact one or just a passable one?

Good pickup. But only 1.9 kps, so not huge. Wasn’t huge for Purdue; but that doesn’t mean she won’t be huge for Northwestern.

They are close to landing a middle transfer An impact one or just a passable one? Impact would be huge, but they have their presumed starters so they just need depth. Tbh +2 MB would be ideal. Bigger concern: only 1 commitment in 2024 😬

Maddy Chinn to Northwestern - thoughts? Personally, pretty excited, she's played well every time Purdue faces NU. NW got a great one in Chinn. Can play on either pin (though she's really great on the right), can pass, probably could play back row if needed. She'll definitely help diversify the offense. She had some bright moments at Purdue. I think it'll really open people's eyes to see her starting full-time on a consistent basis. Not sure they got a great one over the last four years she hit .186 for Purdue. Is it a good get with what is left in the Portal? Maybe. If you are looking for her to come in and be a .250 6 rotation passer then you are probably going to be let down

Northwestern is an incredibly prestigious school, so I’d imagine the recruitment process is more like Stanford’s (where the players commit to applying).

From what I saw while she was there, she was part of a regularly rotating cast of characters at the pins (along with Ellis and Koch) that always had big offensive weapons around them (Newton, Cleveland, Colvin, Hudson, Johnson, etc.). If she earns a regular starting spot for Northwestern, do we see her numbers go up?

I'm not going to be let down because I've watched Chinn play and understand the role she played at Purdue vs the one she could potentially play at NW. I also understand the context of where those numbers for Chinn come from. Also, I'm not looking for Chinn to come in as a 6-rotation OH but let's not act like Lesiak didn't hit under .150 for her career and she was their 6 rotation passing OH.

If the player has strong grades they can commit early. I think they are painfully too thin for this class.

Chinn should do well in an expanded role. She’s athletic, has had some key experience in big games, was trained in Purdue’s gym for 4 years. NWU can’t replace Temi so they need strength and production from every position. I think Chinn at opposite makes sense, with Giancomo at L1 and Randorf a 6-rotation L2. Can’t count out Hernandez who is also a natural 6-rotation left side.

Ellis would sometimes get used that way. If Koch or Chinn got a set it was because it was a scramble. Otherwise in system, Purdue set the usual suspects and routes.

Thanks for explaining this so well! I looked at the stats from the Louisville 2nd round match and Chinn only had 8 swings in 2 sets. I don’t remember the match that well, but I’m curious how many of those were out of system/bail out sets rather than full attacks.

Update: ✓ Chin ✓ Sangiacomo ? Grote ? Zakutney X Ohlinger X Robinson Can Grote convert and play MB? Zakutney probably isn’t needed, and I think is en route to medical school. Grote to Minnesota so take her off the list.
