Statement from the head coach. Smart move? Or a cop out. More like probably out of his control, I would assume NU legal team and PR firm benched him for this one.

Smart move? Or a cop out. Definitely the most prudent move to make. But couldn't they just say they wouldn't answer questions about the issue? Won't the assistants now have to face these questions?

No, because the assistants and players will also have a little cue card that will have prepared answer that says something along the lines of " we will not be commenting on an ongoing legal matter at this time".

Pedro joined the team in February of this year. He will have no prior knowledge of the incident in question, so he won't have to field various questions in various forms, I'm guessing.

And Shane couldn't have done the same thing? Sure, but it wouldn't stop the people that want answers. It would be easier to berate the man being accused, then berate kids up there excited to start their season.

Statement from the head coach. This is pretty weak.

You're an apologist extraordinaire. So? Shane Davis could have said “I will not be speaking about any potential legal issues.” Is that any more or less uncomfortable for the athletes?

So? Shane Davis could have said “I will not be speaking about any potential legal issues.” Not if the NU administration told him not to be there because the questions wouldn't stop there and become a distraction for the girls and their upcoming season.

But the administration has no idea if it would've stopped. I get it, they don't want him to be a distraction, but I don't know that this was any better.

It is much better, Pedro has plausible deniability and the girls were likely coached on how to respond when it came to them or divert to another topic.

For their upcoming season? Like this is going to go away after Media Days? You’re just trolling now.
