There's some discussion here (for starters) about this. To sum it up, I'd say the upside is Vanderbilt is a desirable place to go to school, it's in Tennessee (i.e. the heart of volleyball country), and the SEC. Memorial is going to be a cool gym to play in, and college students love Nashville. There are a lot of aspects about Vandy Volleyball that will make it easier to recruit as compared to other schools. Obviously, starting out is hard, and I think the other concern was Vandy's investment. I'd say they're clearly invested. The media coverage has been great, and they brought in probably one of the best Associate Coaches in the country as HC, and two pretty big names as Assistant Coaches. I'll also just say this about Anders: he has a reputation for bringing out the best in his players even if Vandy recruiting is a struggle. But who knows! They could go 0-24 for 10 straight years, but I'm optimistic. I definitely think once it gets up and going, among the SEC schools, it could be a more appealing landing spot than most others. I for one would much rather spend 4 years in Nashville than anywhere in Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Missouri, or Arkansas....and add Florida to that list so long as they have Trump Jr. as Governor. But I do have one question - since when is Tennessee considered the heart of volleyball country? I used to follow elite national recruiting pretty closely, you can probably count on one hand the number of top 50 or so players that have come from that state in the last decade. You forgot to add the Pacific Northwest or anywhere on the west coast to your list. No way there’s enough NIL money over there for these girls to make it happen. I thought the reference to the heart of volleyball country was about the geographic location of Nashville.

Simply put Anders and his staff will have Vandy competing very well in the SEC very quickly. Good staff and tons of talent will come to Nashville. I fully expect him to challenge Tennessee geographically recrutiing.

Yeah, other than weather, maybe living expenses and two top ranked recruits in the country on the roster, plus long time success, made Minnesota a destination for Cook, but it is not like Washington does not have resources to continue to be very good!

And, heck yeah, I want the Vandy coaches to do well and accomplish the huge task of being competitive in the SEC as a new program very soon, to be clear! The transfer portal could help! Any player who redshirted, why not get a year of a Vandy grad degree paid for?

Not sure if this has been said already but I can definitely see some the girls Anders recruited to Kentucky transfer over to Vandy for their grad year. I’m personally very excited to see what Anders and Co. can do in a couple years.

But by the time Vandy actually starts playing in 2025 there won't be any more COVID super-seniors and we'll see a whole lot less grad transfers in general.

I wish I had a PSA cause I’d love to send them to Vandy to play!
