Will Mullen to either USC or UCLA? She seized opportunity, a traditional volleyball power, a very good school, nice weather, palm trees and will play in the Big Ten. Is this a reference to Abigail Mullen or Messer?

i hope we see more commits like this. even as a Texas fan, it gets annoying seeing top recruits go somewhere where they won’t play for 2-3 seasons when theres so many other top programs where they could lol Yeah i bet you get really tired top recruits still pick Nebraska. But I suspect you’re thinking that those picking Texas did the right thing. oh lord. you can separate being happy that a top recruit chose your school and the thought that the recruit might should’ve picked a different school if they were looking for immediate playing time. I don’t know what each individual athlete is looking for, whether it’s going to their dream school, or immediate playing time, or looking for the best culture or coaching, etc. you don’t know me, nor my thoughts and opinions. but I was a manager for three seasons, and the biggest thing I learned is that I will ALWAYS want what’s best for the athlete, even if it’s not what’s best for “my” team. hence why I’m so happy for Kamaile Hiapo transferring to BYU, even if I selfishly wish she would’ve stayed for her last season at Arizona. hence why I’ve never faulted Skylar Fields or any of Texas’ transfers. and that will be the end of that…

Lol. Sarcastic humor. I don’t know what is best for any player. It depends on the criteria that is important for each individual. Pick any sport you want.

Whoaaa, am I stupid for being surprised by this? On a related subject - where does USC rank in terms of VB programs? Tier 1 is Stanford, Nebraska, and Texas. Is USC in tier 2? I think they are - or I think they should be. To me - they are in that same tier as Wisconsin, Penn State, Minnesota - maybe Florida. Certainly one of the 10 best VB programs in the country. No reason they shouldn't be consistently landing top 10 recruits.

So there are two 2025 threads, can we agree to stick to one?

So there are two 2025 threads, can we agree to stick to one? This one specifically posts commits/commitment announcements. The other one just talks about the class in general, etc.

Their dip was directly related to the one-two punch of a criminal (literally) transition from a long time successful coach to a poor hire, followed by navigating Covid in California. Covid even floored Stanford for two years, sitting there with a roster as talented on paper as anybody. They took a big step forward last year, even though they were very young with 11 new players. There is no reason they can't take another big step forward this year and vie for the top ten. Their recruiting continues to be strong, so they aren’t going away anytime soon.

I take a long-term view of what I think a program has been and is capable of being - and do not just look at the recent past. USC should and can be among the elite programs in my opinion. But I do agree that the lack of success on the floor over the past several years is putting doubt into that next tier status. Anyway - USC continues to get top 10 overall recruits - and adding someone of Messer's caliber isn't surprising to me at all. This is a program that can be a force in VB very quickly.

I wouldn't even put Penn State and Florida in that second tier ATM, but I tend to base upon results in the last 3-5 seasons. Historically, SC is obviously in the top five programs of all-time IMO, but they're a tier 3 team ATM. If they keep recruiting like this, he'll get them back to where they should be. UCLA can come too. Anything to lift the competitiveness of NCAA vball is a good thing IMO.
