How does Fields not get the POY nod over Kipp? She had a fantastic season, I thought she was going to get it for sure this year.

It’s crazy that Maldonado Diaz went from Pac12 freshman of the year to not even honorable mention her senior year. Has that ever happened before? Maybe due to injury, but this will require some research. Pretty common, actually. Over half in the last dozen years. Edit: this is from a quick look at the P12 record book. Feel free to correct if I made any errors. Edit2: These never made an all pac team at all after freshman year. There may have been others that were not in their senior (or last) year. 2009 Lauren Cook 2010 Falyn Fonoimoana 2013 Ebony Nwanebu 2015 Hayley Hodson 2017 Kylee McLaughlin 2018 Raquel Lazaro 2020 Sofia Maldonado Diaz

Correct, but that wasn't the question. Hodson, Nwanebu, Fonoimoana and Diaz were all-Pac their freshman year only. The other 3 never made all-pac.

It’s crazy that Maldonado Diaz went from Pac12 freshman of the year to not even honorable mention her senior year. Has that ever happened before? Her freshman year was a * year. Many teams were hampered by covid and covid restrictions. Stanford was only able to field 6 players for 10 matches. So really not a typical year.

I thought Kipp was good this year, but Fields was so far ahead of the rest of the conference, I really didn't think there was much of a question.

Transferred to Louisville, started in the championship game and was voted setter of the year in the ACC.

KPS: Fields 5.13, Levinska 5.07, Kipp 4.28 %: Kipp .339, Levinska .333, Fields .302 Blocks/set: Kipp .96, Levinska .56, Fields .11 Aces/set: Kipp .58, Levinska .19, Fields .12 Points/set: Levinska 5.6, Fields 5.4, Kipp 5.4 Historically, most of the time, the OH that has the highest KPS tends to win this award (unless a setter or middle wins it, which is rare but occasionally happens). But last year Fields had an even higher KPS, and Kipp still won. Kipp has huge advantages on blocks and aces, which are not dependent on how often she gets set, has the highest hitting percentage, and has a lower KPS only because she gets set less. There are two other Stanford players with higher KPS than any other USC or ASU player. Particularly after seeing that the coaches gave it to Kipp last year when Fields had an even bigger edge in KPS, I thought it was obvious Kipp was going to get it again this year. I think Levinska was probably a closer competitor for this award than Fields.

Lazaro went from FOY to the bench her last season Yeah, that sure was a huge waste of talent. IMO a big coaching mistake. I'm sure USC fans have debated that. Happy she transferred to Louisville where she flourished. Busboom Kelly recognized how good Lazaro was, and utilized her accordingly. Result: Final Four, NC match.

It’s funny the inconsistencies in people’s viewpoints on POY. For SEC, people think the best player on the best team should win. While with the PAC, points per set is the only metric that matters. That said, I’d side with Fields and co if she wasn’t passing a 1.8 on the season and contributing in other areas other than kills. Fields will have her chance to beat her out in the NT gym, if she can adhere to kumbaya

If I had a vote, I would have voted Levinska for P.O.Y.
I'm still holding out hope ASU makes some wild run to the Final Four and Levinska gets NPOY. They will now probably lose to Georgia.
