I still have questions about Texas. They can get real sloppy and I'm not sure Skinner is ready to be the reliable go-to. Swindle has some oof moments too. That said, kudos to them for being the more stable team tonight and for executing the gameplan. They are obviously better with Asjia out there. I'll be interested to watch them against some teams better at reception who don't bleed as many points. Barnes establishing herself as an important piece. Shaffmaster gets some leeway because of the passing but if that was what was throwing her off it definitely leaked into the rest of her setting when the pass wasn't to blame. Some rough transition at times. Wucherer is still pretty young, not really all that surprising that she'd come back down to Earth after last weekend. She hits a heavy ball though! Landfair is an enigma. I really liked some of what Grote was doing. She's a steal.

Girl I don’t have time to find the exact posts/comments you made, hence why I said “something along those lines” because you know you did. well, might I encourage you to find what was actually said, and then read and comprehend what was said BEFORE spouting off? Because what you did was allege an actual quote of what you *think* was said, make no real qualifier to it other than "something along those lines" and then pass it off as the truth, when it wasn't (At least as far as it concerns me). I hate purposeful liars, but indifferent lying is just as bad. For your reference, what I said is below: well, I dunno about O'Neal being the best middle in the country, however, I saw tons of backcourt miscues, poor setting and misfires from all the pins in a lot of the play I watched in set 4. If you really think a 3 rotation middle was the difference maker for all those problems, ok...but if a loaded team like Texas is going to live and die from the impact of Asjia O'Neal, I think you should prepare for more matches like this. Why not just chalk this up to first match nerves, jitters, sloppiness whatever and be done with it? I think lamenting the loss of O'Neal seems like a cop out. The middles that DID play both hit for over .500 and had 5+ blocks each. If you really think that O'Neal is making up that 15 point deficit that LBSU scored over Texas in the sets they won, ok, that's your opinion to have, but O'Neal barely had 2 kills per last year and like 1.3 blocks per set....she would have had to have had an extraordinary match to make up that difference. Great teams lose matches, especially in week 1. I vividly recall Stanford during a year where they reached the NCAA finals losing to !!!St. Louis!!! in the first week. It happens to all teams, Texas is no exception. Right - my point exactly. The middles on the floor for Texas hit for over .500 and had 5+ blocks each. Yet, despite that, LBSU was a +15 point difference in the three sets they won to actually win the match. A 3 rotation middle isn't good enough to improve upon what the middles already did to overcome that difference on the court. And if someone wants to suggest that O'Neal is subjectively (leader, cheerleader, motivator whatever) to swing THAT many points, she should start charging her team game royalties because that would be insane. Not having O'Neal isn't why Texas lost, the numbers simply don't support that position any way you cut it. And if NOT having O'Neal on the court means that Texas can't execute like they need to, then Elliot has a lot of problems on his path to defend the title, because that also sounds ridiculous. If anything, it was nellynel, a Texas fan that actually said "I’m not sure as great as she is would have made much of a difference". Gotta side with ay on this one 😅

Well that was an exciting but also frustrating one to watch. From the Gophers standpoint it sure felt like a couple of adjustments could have won the match in 5, but instead here we are.
Game Stuffs (aka the gang talks about Taylor Landfair) * Yes it's been beaten to death, but we're crossing over from "Something's up with Taylor" to it becoming a liability. The obvious liability is her passing. I saw someone say she got aced 10 times. If so that's unreal and it basically negates anything she may have done hitting. I don't have stats but I wouldn't be surprised if her passing was sub 1.5, which is okay if you're coaching 11s but not for a top 10 D-1 program. Surely one of the other players we have can pass at least an occasional 2 or 3 ball. * Then there's the hitting. Sure, there were 11 kills, but each match in this young season she's looked more like Adanna Rollins than Taylor Landfair. Then there's the little things... Not going up to challenge on overpasses or errant sets, not coming off the net for defense when the set is to the opposite side. If she's going to continue to play six rotations, something needs to change. She's been given a longer leash than anybody else on the team, it might be time to pull it in if things don't improve fast. * The ref was letting a lot of stuff go in terms of play tonight, it seemed. A lot of contacts that would have been called doubles in the past were not (though I know they are de-emphasizing doubles on your side a bit more), but also a lot of lifts were not called. The Gophers got away with one or two, but I saw one play where Texas probably could have been called 2-3 different times for one but weren't.
Non-Game Stuffs * Debatable if this is a game stuff, but we're going there with Jerrad. The challenge on the foot fault deal was fine by me. If you wanna waste a challenge on an obvious not fault, you do you. The tirade and whining afterward to the ref that went on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on was pathetic. He should have received a yellow card for that. It went from disagreeing with the ref to being downright unsportsmanlike and intentionally delaying the game. At minimum it should have been a sanction, but really he could have been carded for it. * For some reason, the line to get in extended out the main pav entrance and was snaking around to University Ave. I have never seen that before. Of course, when I got closer to the front, I saw that it was one line and not two. The line for the other door next to it was empty. Oh, people 😅 * Part of that line may have been due to the number of students trying to get in. When I got to my spots, students were sitting in them. When I figured out they were students, I told them they had to go to the student sections "Which seats can we take?" They said. They were disheartened to learn that basically every seat within 30 feet of me was a season ticket, and they'd have to cram their bodies into the already overflowing bleachers. * I meant to come see you, JT, but my teammate joined me for the game and when she showed up the game talk began. Then of course both of us had to leave as soon as the game was done to get home and ready for an early day at work. Next time, though! * Speaking of my teammate, she commented on how #45 was a really odd number for Wenaas to wear. She said "Is she playing volleyball or linebacker?" 😂 I explained what happened of course, and then it made sense. * The wrestlers were over by me this time. Their energy was good tonight, I thought. They were giving it to Wenaas whenever she came on the court. While I personally didn't agree with the sentiment, I didn't think it was over the top.
On to the next one! With only a few days to fix things, hopefully the Gophers can get back on the right track sooner rather than later.

I just got home from the match, and I haven't read what others have thought yet. But as someone who knows very little about the technical aspects of the game, I'd say there were three reasons the Gophers lost this match: 1. Service reception. 2. Service reception. 3. Service reception. Don’t forget “4. Serve Receive.” That was kind of important, too. Not to mention "5. First Contact."

No problem. (I tend to leave immediately after the match, too, so you likely won’t find me if you wait until it’s over.) The wrestlers do seems to have gotten better, which is a GoodThing. Boo-ing the opposing team when they come onto the court for warmups is not really Minnesota Nice, but it’s not terrible behavior, at least (imho). It’s general rather than personal.

I’ve only followed Minnesota closely the last two seasons, but her vibe is just off. I don’t want to call it her attitude because that’s not quite the right word, but she just seems totally checked out. I’m not going to go as far as to say she isn’t even trying, but honestly it looks that way at times. She clearly is not lazy (she’s an insanely athletic and successful D1 athlete— that is inherently inconsistent with laziness), but she is playing lazy. There were some balls on SR that basically landed at her feet. As a volleyball fan who is neutral/objective as to Minnesota, I’d have taken Wenaas over Landfair all day. And I can’t fathom why she gets left in 6-ro when her backrow play is such a liability

Off topic but Stephanie Samedy is snatched tonight I'm watching the replay now and had to pause it to make sure someone else pointed this out. Good lord she is stunning.

“If you are referring to me” says it all. You called yourself out, I didn’t need to but keep trying to defend yourself. Because if you WERE referring to me, you needed to be corrected, because it wasn't what I said. You responded further by saying "Yeah, you’re one of them. One of the main haters. And dude, learn to read", which is what prompted me to post what I actually said. I can take criticism for my opinions, but I refuse to have people like you lying on me. I like to live in a factual world, it's a shame that isn't a universal sentiment. You could have just apologized for your misunderstanding and bygones, but yet, here you are.... You’re a hater and you were proven wrong. Keep denying it. You know you are that’s why you felt it was directed at you.

Hearing the crowd collectively gasp after that disgusting backset from Swindle gave me renewed life! Which time, she had like 88 of them.

Speaking of my teammate, she commented on how #45 was a really odd number for Wenaas to wear. She said "Is she playing volleyball or linebacker?" 😂 I explained what happened of course, and then it made sense. what happened? Texas has a long history of having jersey's for some players arrive late from Nike (with their names spelled out on the back). So, when they are waiting on a jersey, they put on a generic one, usually in the 40's with just TEXAS on it instead of their name.
The joke is that Kayla Caffey joined the Texas program so late last year that her personal jersey and selected number NEVER showed up in the season. So she played as just "TEXAS".
Same thing is happening to Wenaas right now. She's wearing the same 45 as Caffey did last year.

Unless they can turn Landfair into a backrow attacker ala Samedy, I see no reason to play her 6 rotations. When we play Nebraska, John Cook will serve to Landfair 91 consecutive times.
