You know they would for basketball I don’t think I’ve ever seen a promo for volleyball on espn…. BTN does it the best Well, they were promoting the crap out of it on the Longhorn Network during the Rice match. I honestly found it irritating, but it was there. Not sure about the efficacy. MNF obviously would have been way better exposure. I'm very thankful for BTN, the Big 10 as a whole, and the various fan bases that pack the gyms. Especially Nebraska, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. There was a podcast last year from the Twin Cities newspaper that brought in the beat writer who covers the Minnesota volleyball team, and he was pointing out the continued disconnect between how many fervent fans are packing the stands and the lag in television coverage for the sport, but that the disconnect was lessening because decision makers were taking notice. There's a chicken/egg aspect where marketing helps produce bigger numbers, but there has to be evidence the bigger numbers are possible. Nothing does that better than bringing in people in droves. The Nebraska volleyball day was a watershed moment in many ways, but the Wisconsin-Marquette indoor record being held tomorrow is important, too. I know we'd all like to see things happening more quickly, but the trends are all heading in the right direction. To me that's the most important thing. Regular season numbers just need to keep showing spikes every now and then. If it isn't Nebraska-Stanford it will be another big match. Anyway, thanks for tracking the numbers. I find this stuff fascinating and important from a future of volleyball perspective.

They’re cross promoting their product to other volleyball fans without truly acknowledging how difficult it is to subscribe and how predominantly Longhorn the audience is. I love the Longhorn Network and I’m going to miss it, but there are a lot of times I wish the volleyball coverage was a little more insular and homerish than it has been. Listening to promos of Stanford and Nebraska facing off the next night is one of those times.

Wisconsin - Florida set for the flagship ESPN on Sunday. That should be a big one.

It’s too bad ESPN can’t carry Nebraska-Wisconsin, although BTN can still pump some extreme numbers for it.
Numbers keep going up. Especially when Nebraska is involved. It’s all good!

It’s all good! the Wisconsin and Michigan (?) games that get a CFB lead in on FOX should have good ratings too. Nebraska-Wisconsin is on a saturday, so that might get a football lead in (not that they'd need it)

FS1 could pick it up. They have about the same availability as ESPN. And since they have the Big Ten, I actually think they could become the big ratings driver in college volleyball.

Well, my guess is the big ratings driver will be the tournament. At some point those numbers need to scale up. To me the benchmark is women's basketball, but 9.9 million for a championship match seems like tall cotton currently. I know it's not apples to apples, but those are the types of comparisons I make in my head. But I don't care about the source. I love all the Big 10 ratings bonanzas. They do a great job investing in the sport. We know ESPN is watching. We can see it with the amount of coverage being drawn. I'd love to see a similar type of investment from the SECn next year.

That's why it's important that the numbers keep going up. One of the things I've had beaten into me in business, is that for publicly traded companies (or companies looking to IPO/sell) growth trumps profits. If something shows exceptional growth, it's going to get attention.

Yea I know... we've seen a willingness from BTN to commit to volleyball... but we havent from ESPN ESPN didnt even commit to womens basketball until during/after covid when the women's tournament got mega-exposed compared to the men WVB doesnt have that counterpart (and they have to compete with football)
