As expected, Pool B is coming down to Brazil, Japan, and Turkey, all 2-0. Japan is currently 15 points ahead of Netherlands and 20 points head of Dominican Republic in world ranking. They are, most importantly, 49 points ahead of Canada. I'm not sure Canada can make up that gap even with VNL 2024 coming. I think the top 7 teams in the World are essentially locks to the Olympics and Japan is very close to making that happen even if they don't win Pool B.
Pool A is where the drama is at, but only gets really serious if CHN/SRB lose to any of CAN/DOM/NED (or Czech?). Tonight, Czech Republic plays China and Canada plays Serbia. This is a huge match for Canada, if they lose, they absolutely HAVE to beat China to have any chance, and then it would likely get into tie-breakers. Dominican Republic needs to be careful as well - Ukraine is not exactly a pushover. Netherlands gets Mexico, which should be a simple 3-0 or 3-1 win at worst.

Canada has to grab at least one win from China/Serbia and run the table with the remaining teams (although Ukraine, Mexico, and Czech Republic should be easy teams), then pray for tiebreaks.
NED/DR is on the last day, which could be decisive if either manage to pull off an upset against the favorites.

I can easily see a scenario where China and DOM are both 5-2, but, China wins the tie-breaker due to match points. I could also see DOM beating China but losing to Netherlands in the last day too. I think things REALLY get messy if Canada beats China tomorrow. If not, China has to feel pretty comfortable.

Canada plays Serbia tonight and China plays Czech Republic next morning (if you're in north american time zone)
I am on the east coast so I can watch both

Brutal start for the Canadians. I'll miss most of the China games honestly.

To anyone who has watched Canada does anyone think they could really challenge a full strength Serbia ?? I don’t think Canada played that badly-at least not as bad as some Canada fans suggested. I think they will simply struggle against Serbia. Their biggest issue is matching the firepower in attack and being consistently terminal.
