Czech Republic wins set 3 and takes a 2-1 lead in the match.
Czech is out-blocking DOM 12-5, DOM has ~10 more kills interestingly.
Yonkaira has 18 for DOM, Brayelin with 17. Jineiry has not been very involved offensively. All 3 of Czech's pins are carrying a similar load and they're all performing well enough with not a huge amount of errors.

Accidental buzzers are BACK!
That cost DOM a free ball - I can't believe they haven't resolved that issue yet that kept happening at the VNL.

Czech Republic up 16-14 in the 4th. Their OH's have been spectacular from the backrow and DR's block hasn't come up with many answers.

Kwiek just f***ed up a substitution and ended up without a middle blocker in that last point. That can't happen at a very costly point late in the 4th set.
CZE 20-18... T/O DOM
DOM had a swing to tie - but gets dug and lets a rollshot fall.
CZE 23-21... T/O DOM
Czech have a swing to get to match point - but miss wide from pipe.
Tied at 23 all... T/O CZE
Czech gets a match point at 24-23, but misses their serve into the net. Their coach and a couple players were complaining earlier - not sure if there was some buzzer or something? IDK.
Next point CZE gets roofed and DOM has a set point at 25-24

So, since the Dominican Republic is playing a volleyball match, we're going 5 sets.
26-24 DOM wins set 4. Match tied 2-2.

Solid coaching by the Czech coach, and very low error play by this Czech team.

CZE up 5-2 in the 5th. I'm not sure why - but DR is just not setting Jineiry even when they can. I know Marte panics in transition and doesn't want to force it - but even on better opportunities she isn't getting looks.
T/O DOM
Well, someone listened to me, Jineiry gets a pinky touch and gets DOM out of a tough rotation.
5-3 Czech up

8-4 Czech Republic at the switch.
Yonkaira looks a little out of gas and can't terminate, but DOM had no option but to set her in the last couple rallies. Looking for DR to ride Brayelin as much as they can until the end.
Another transition opportunity - another Yonkaira error. DOM has not had much of a right-side attack with DLC. They are going to have to live or die with Gaila it seems like - I don't see them surviving with these merry-go-round OPP options.
Czech Republic 10-5 .. T/O DOM. Last gas for the DR.
Czech Republic has hit such smart shots and just played a well-coached clean game. They are earning this win. 11-5 now.

DOM made a run and had a chance to get within 1, on a really high overpass Yonkaira just lets it fall on the back line. Wow. They get it right back, but, running out of time.
13-11 CZE. DOM going to try no setter rotation. Well, DOM gets their transition swings and Brayelin errors, 3 match points for the Czech.

DOM is gonna DOM. Marte with a double contact on a transition opportunity to get it to 14-13. Sigh.
Congratulations to Czech Republic. They earned this win and clearly were well prepared to play DOM.

NORCECA Champions fall to Czech Republic in the 1st match of the Olympic Qualifiers. It is what it is.
Yonkaira had 24 points in the match, but...
hit -.556 in the 5th (0-5-9).

Hmmm. This CAN/NED match is really big. With DR already taking a loss - the CAN/NED winner can focus on beating DR and one of China/Serbia and that is an excellent chance to qualify.
But besides direct qualification, Netherlands really has a chance to separate from Dominican Republic with the DR losing. And with Canada being the biggest threat to NED/DR, a win over CAN is twice as good for Netherlands.
I expect this to be juicy, but also ugly. Netherlands is still young and Canada is prone to some sketchy first couple contacts as well.
