Holy !!!!###$$$!!!. What a game for Canada. So huge.
Brie King was the MVP of this game. Massive digs, excellent set choices. I thought she was going to choke when she started to spray some sets in the 5th there, but excellent job from her. Also a huge kudos to Winzer. I hate coaching based on emotions but she had a good feel of the game with regards to her subbing of Howe, Mitrovic and Savard. Howe is our weakness and almost costed us the game with her passing and defense... but we wouldn't have won this game without her coming up big offensively.
KVR... I have some major issues with whoever coached her swing and approach. This inside out arm swing is beautiful when it works, but is incredibly high error. I swear she's forgotten how to swing normally or cross body. Never seen an opposite so adverse or unable to hitting cross court. Her incredible athleticism contributed to some excellent defensive play however.
Gray is goated. Excellent performance.

lol Netherlands choked in the 5th set and went from 10-8 to 10-13, then made the comeback to 13-13, just to lose 13-15... But it was a fun match.

And they blew their lead in the 1st set as well.

King sucked bad - for a good portion of the match, but she also had some great moments - as did the whole team which is why they were blown out in two sets. Gray is the GOAT on this team for a reason. KVR played one of her better matches in months and it is good to see her coming back into form so I wouldn't be so hard on her. I thought she did great overall. Starting a match with Howe is a mistake. Howe is better as a spark off the bench. She was a passing target (rightfully so, by the Netherlands). I prefer Mitrovic to start and then pull her when she struggles. Howe is a go all-one-gear, kind of player. This is great when you are behind or need a comeback, but she is a major liability. Winzer is finally realizing this but not sure why she started with Howe today. I agree, Winzer's team made some good calls on substitutions when they were made. Given their limited bench, they were used fairly well... not sure about putting Shaniah in though (but it did allow KVR to come back in more energized). So, I guess it helped?

NORCECA Champions fall to Czech Republic in the 1st match of the Olympic Qualifiers. It is what it is. Yonkaira had 24 points in the match, but... hit -.556 in the 5th (0-5-9). I thought that the Dominicans looked really tired. They played decent at times but then really struggled with energy. Like Canada, they had moments of being really good, and moments of being really bad. I wonder how their travel schedules compared to the European teams is affecting the NORCECA teams? Both Canada and DR looked uncharacteristically gassed throughout much of their matches and struggled to find energy at times (and made a lot of errors as a result).

Assuming no major surprises for the top 2 spots. Canada, Dom and Netherlands are in right? Obviously tho lots of things can happen to change the rankings and maybe I’m doing the math wrong lol in what? There's still an entire 2024 vnl to play

If Winzer qualifies for the Olympics, we all have to get "Choose to Compete" tattoos.

Solid coaching by the Czech coach, and very low error play by this Czech team. The Czech coach used to be at Stuttgart when they were at their best. Now, he's with Vasas Obuda in Hungary (Taylor Bannister's team) and led that team through a surprising run in the Champions League. He is an excellent coach.

Obviously tho lots of things can happen to change the rankings and maybe I’m doing the math wrong lol There's only 2 spots available for CAN/DOM/NED, even if everything goes to plan. GER/BEL/THA are on the outside looking in, but not theoretically out yet.
