Is this match going to kill CUs RPI? I remember a few years back CU turned a match into an exhibition because it was going to hurt their RPI win or lose.

Denver did just win that one match at their first home game... so they moved up in RPI. DU has only played at home once and struggled to schedule non conference opponents after their coach had to leave. Denver is in better position than SC State was when CU moved it to an exhibition though (ranked 340 or something versus around 250 for DU today), but it definitely will not help CU to play Denver and win. Some quality PAC wins (in the best RPI conference) will move them back up though. |

An all-bench Colorado team is not working today. CU is fixing to lose the 1st set because Mahoney wants to play around.

DU gets the 1st set -20.
CU substituted its starting setter in after a timeout at 6-13, and then a starting OH and MB came in within a few points after that, but it was too late to salvage the set.
Edit - looks like all the usual CU starters are back to start the 2nd set. (It's 2-4 Buffs early.)

Correct me if I am wrong but I don’t know any other D1 team in the country that does this!! Play your starters no matter what and bring in your bench if dominating a 3rd game or at the end of games of up by more than 10.

Why did denver have issues recruiting after their coach had to step away? This coach seems competent. Is Jim Stone still involved?

I've seen other schools start bench player(s) when playing a team they can win against. What a great way to get some live action practice for those players.
No Jim Stone. From what I've heard DU athletic department dragged its feet hiring, so any new coach was going to be limited this year getting new transfers in.

To be fair, a friend of mine that knows DU volleyball said they finally have their act together and are playing MUCH better (hence their last win) with better connections and assignments, but it took them a long time to gel as an almost completely new team.
