I hope this is competitive, but hard to believe that WA would win, especially in Pullman. Cougs should sweep, but WA definitely capable of getting a set or two.

I do not see this going to five sets. Also. Curious to know if Tui has solidified her starting lineup. She has gone back-and-forth between a 6-2 and 5-1 and has rotated in all the hitters at some point and has different starting line ups up to this point. Also, wondering if Wilson will be back setting as I heard she got “dinged up” a bit during the mustang invitational. My hopes for this match are that Washington improves on its first contact and increases its block percentage. I’m not sure what that percentage is but I know it’s really low. Also no injuries! 🙏🏽

Cougs sweep regardless of the match being in Seattle or Pullman. UW defense has not shown up well this year and they are slow, and definitely slower than the most decent teams the Cougs have faced. Cougs held two much stronger teams to .168 and .166 on the road last week. Will this be the last Apple Cup?
2022: split, both teams swept at home
2021: split, both teams won at home
2020: both games cancelled in the spring to COVID
2019: WSU swept the series

UW doesn't have the horses to hang with Wazzu, and there will be a fired up team and crowd. Would be a big achievement for UW to take a set, but I would put my money on the Cougs being ruthless.

WSU has 12 seniors! They will be left with two juniors no sophomores and only 2 freshman. (I also did not check to see if any of these were 5th year seniors or not. I do not see any 2024 recruits for Washington state). They need to climb as high as they can this year because next year will be a rebuilding year for them too. Washington will be bringing everyone back except for Pertofsky and Litzau. They have two outstanding recruits coming in, a middle blocker and a setter. Both highly ranked. Washington needs to just stay healthy and continue to use this year as a building year. No expectation to go into this match trying to do anything crazy.

The four returners should be solid, but it will be interesting to see how they plug the holes. Or if they’re also looking for a coach. 👀 |
