I don’t blame Swindle for her questionable sets. She relies a lot on Skinner to get a kill since we don’t have an OH2 who can terminate. I’d still take a gamble with Devin over Jenna. Wenaas is not it and I hope she transfers out next season if she doesn’t want to sit on the bench. She doesn’t cut it for what Texas pins usually are especially when we have Kahahawai and Byrd on the bench. Without Jenna's 4 kills in the 4th and 3 in the 5th, Texas loses - maybe in 4 sets. 1 out of every 5 points in the final set were kills by Wenaas. She started out slow, made adjustments, and came on strong late. Until this year, Devin was my favorite player. For some reason, she just hasn't developed. Last night 5 of her 7 kills were in set 3 which Texas lost. Her presence on the court did/does not result in enough positive results to start over Jenna. I expect that will change as she gets more experience after Wenaas graduates. Anyone who hopes a player transfers out is an embarrassment to actual Texas fans.Lots of good points in your post. Unfortunately, it will go on deaf ears as we have a handful of Texas fans who are constantly angry this season and can't seem to enjoy the matches without talking trash about our players. I'm all for constructive criticism, but the poster you quoted definitely has a vendetta against Wenaas based on the quantity of jabs they take at her every chance they get.

Love Devin but the only problem is that Wenaas still has another year of eligibility next year, so Devin won't get to be full time starter until her senior year. I have the feeling that Devin might transfer after this season given her limited playing time this year and possibly next.

But, Molly Phillips for sure moves on from her starting Opposite spot. Most feel Devin is better suited to play at Opposite than OH. So, if Opposite is the position she covets and she believes she can beat out two redshirt freshmen in Jordyn Byrd and lefty Auburn Tomkinson who are 2 years her younger, the starting job is hers and she is the only one of the three who could actually play all 6 rotations due to her ball control and add a back row attack.

I expect that will change as she gets more experience after Wenaas graduates. Anyone who hopes a player transfers out is an embarrassment to actual Texas fans. I hoped Parra would transfer out. I'm glad she did. She's getting opportunities at TCU she never would have gotten at Texas. Wenaas has another year of eligibility after this one. Kahahawai has two years of eligibility remaining. If Kahahawai waits until Wenaas graduates she will receive 1 year of game reps, which may or may not be 6 rotations. If Kahahawai has any aspirations to pursue a volleyball career after graduation she needs in game reps. She can take a chance that she gets an opportunity to pursue that at Texas, or like Parra (or Skylar Fields, for that matter) she can seek out a better opportunity elsewhere. There is a chance she'll be the starting opposite next year after Phillips graduates. She'd be the likely starter, in fact. But she'll be competing against redshirt freshmen Helmers, Tomkinson, and especially Jordyn Byrd, who looks like a potential superstar. Plus any transfer portal players like Wenaas that Texas chooses to bring in. I do not believe Kahahawai's leash is as long as either Wenaas or Phillips. Perhaps it shouldn't be. Perhaps Elliott sees those two regularly out perform her in practice, but he's hoping some kind of light bulb moment occurs in an actual match, but when he sees the same kinds of issues in a game he sees on the practice court, he pulls her. But from an irrational fan perspective who has already decided I'd prefer Kahahawai out there, or at least see her given more of a chance because I think her upside is higher, it doesn't seem like she's being treated fairly. However, that's from an irrational fan perspective. I liked Wenaas' contributions in the 4th and 5th set. I like when she swings aggressively like that. But it's impossible to say what would have happened if she didn't get those chances. Bottom line is I'm glad she performed the way she did, and I'm glad Texas won. But I find her frustrating to root for. A big part of it is that we've been spoiled with White/Eggleston, Eggleston/Fields, and Eggleston/Skinner as our outside hitters. That's not the mold Wenaas represents. I also question why we brought in Wenaas, whose greatest strengths are her ability to play 6 rotations as a defensive OH and a back row attacker. I'm okay with only using Skinner back there, and utilizing Halter, Akana, and Barnes in the back row. But it remains frustrating to me that we brought in Wenaas as a transfer when we're not really using her in a way that draws from her best attributes. In any case, I have a hard time - pretty much impossible time - seeing Kahahawai wearing burnt orange next season. She has two years of eligibility left. She'd be better off going somewhere that needs her as a 6 rotation option, regularly in serve receive, where ever that may be. If that makes me an embarrassment to you, I'm okay with that.

This is a good point I always forget about during matches. My desire to see Jenna subbed out when she’s struggling overrides the logical part that knows Devin is better used as an Opp than an OH. She probably owns that position in the practice gym on the B side so subbing her in for Jenna is more of a break in case of emergency kind of thing than a true sub to fight for playing time. Hopefully she earns her way into Mollys starting role next season but if not I wouldn’t be salty seeing her go somewhere she could start full time.

If it wasn't for Jenna, Texas loses the match. on the flip side, if we didn’t get stuck with her front row so often, Texas wouldn’t have gone 5 sets.

I’m glad she played the way she did in set 4 and 5. I’d like to think there’s a different level that Wenaas is capable of that we haven’t seen yet, but she’s not a freshman with no Div 1 experience. What we’ve seen this year is exactly what she’s been at Minnesota, minus being a decent back row defensive opposite in 6 rotations. A la, the best part. It’s not like I “hate” Wenaas. I’m just frustrated is all. And that’s okay. It’s not like she’s half@ssing it out there, or is a bad player. She’s playing her heart out. She’s regularly making hustle plays. I just feel like I’m seeing her ceiling, and it’s not what I’m used to for an outside hitter at Texas.

TX didn’t defend period until 2022, so just lean in. 😂 No, I meant we’ve always been good at hitting the last 3 feet. It’s been our bread and butter since Haley and Bailey. So when a team is able to hit that shot over and over on us, I’m like uhhhh why? Also, let’s not make the statement that we don’t defend when a one Autumn Rounsaville was out here sacrificing life and limb for fifth set wins. Thanks Lol I'm only joking -- playing into old stereotypes, &c. But the answer of "why can't we defend that shot?" is honestly because JE never once rotated the defense. TX is one of the only top 10 teams that does zero shifting in SR minus when setter is BR. There's a lot to be said for very small details mattering a lot, and I don't know that JE has the brain for defensive strategy. I'm very impressed by his work on setters (which is why Shook seems like such an anomaly to me) and I love his development of hitters, but it's for sure a gap for him. He resorts to screaming and literally kicking the scorers' table before he thinks "maybe Halter shuffles to cover gap in SR?" it's just weird / wild to me. Obsessed with him overall tho <3

I love how team sports work. when are we gonna address the girl in your profile pic! everyone talking about the OH1 but both played WORLDS better than Molly. I mean .053 with 1 block in 5 sets as an opposite? SHEESH. Devin this, Jenna that, let’s get Devin on the right full time. she can split the OOS balls with Jenna when Madi is backrow so Jenna doesn’t have to get all of them. I bet we would have a whole new appreciation for Jenna and Devin if that happened.
