No need for #1 recruits, when you can just poach great players from other schools to make your team elite. Why doesn’t Minnesota do that then? 🤔

I thought the Gophers played pretty good, especially with how up and down they’ve been all season. It’s just that Wisconsin is THAT good!! Although it seemed too late to do so, it was refreshing to see some line up changes near the end. Did anyone see Wookie get subbed out? Did Cook pull her? Or did she bench herself? If I recall, there was a game earlier this season where she mouthed “I’m done” to Cook after she was clearly frustrated with her play. Yes, Hanson subbed for her and played through the front row.

To try and set this straight, we thought she was referring to her "serving" not her actual overall game when she mouthed "I'm done" because she had just had another SE.

Thanks for correcting me on that.

I haven't read through the comments, and I don't know what TV might have shown, but there was a nice moment near the end of the third set. GG was subbing out for the last time, and Sheffield gave a good, 'long' hug as she came off, a sort-of "great job, great comeback match" after having benched her Friday night. Passing struggled for period, but steadied out very well. Her LB defense on line and cross court shots was excellent. A lot of really impressive digs.

like is the slip of minny purely bc of cook or a combo of the recruiting classes simply not being as strong/able to mesh together which also can lead back to cook It’s players that either haven’t developed over the past 2 years or just aren’t putting in high level effort. This is 1st on the players…next on both coaching staffs during that time. Hugh needs to get a big part of the blame here for his poor handling of his resignation last season and what seems like a poor coaching transition from someone who’s still in Minnesota employ. How did he handle it poorly again???

No reason for him not to simply coach out the year & announce his new role after the season ended…

It's really too bad the casual fan had to listen to these announcers. I would have turned it off based on that.

Choboy had verbally committed but not signed. Hugh announced his resignation before signing day to be fair to the incoming class and give them a chance to go elsewhere. Choboy, who IIRC had already recommitted from Penn State after Russ retired, made her move and JCook snapped her up quickly. I thought it was Chicoine who recomitted from Penn State after RR retired? Entirely possible I’m misremembering.

But it did kinda bork the team a bit.

Noticed in both the 1st and 3rd set, the Badgers didn't start in their normal serve rotation, but the next rotation with GG serving instead of Izzy. It’s probably to save subs. Starting with GG in the back means you don’t have to burn a sub after ro-1 side out The third set ended up with Wisconsin having used 14 subs with GG on the floor, so #15 the TTA for GG sub. So that theory is a good one. On the other hand, MN ended the 2nd set at 14, and really no way to use #15; that happens to teams often, including UW.

The Star Tribune has an article online: No paywall and a disclaimer that the reporter wasn't at the match.
No comments from Sheffield.
2 from Coach Cook:
"We're not in this position where we're walking in ranked in the top 10 and everything is going great. It's not that spotlight for us," coach Keegan Cook said. "People are going to see us in adversity right now at a critical moment.
"We are fighting for our lives every day," Cook said. "We talked about that if we're fortunate enough to win enough matches to play in the tournament, we'll be really seasoned at fighting for our lives — which is the mentality you have to have in December."

I'm pretty sure Minny has more number 1 recruits on the court today than Sheff has had over his entire career at Wisconsin No need for #1 recruits, when you can just poach great players from other schools to make your team elite. Go look how many transfers UW had on the floor when they won the national championship.
