No need for #1 recruits, when you can just poach great players from other schools to make your team elite. Go look how many transfers UW had on the floor when they won the national championship. I'll start: Lauren Barnes

He quit mid season for no reason, and just hung around with a team in limbo. No reason for him not to simply coach out the year & announce his new role after the season ended… From an integrity standpoint I respect him announcing when he did, to give the recruits all the info they needed to decide whether to sign an NLI with MN. But it did kinda bork the team a bit. I like the fact that "bork" now is an accepted verb in normal colloquial use.

Nebraska had Caffey. I could look up how many the semi-final teams had, but I DO NOT CARE TO. Let it effing go!

For the Viking fans: sorry to hear about Kirk Cousins, a respected opponent from all the way back in the days of Russell Wilson vs Cousins at Michigan St.

How did he handle it poorly again??? He quit mid season for no reason, and just hung around with a team in limbo. No reason for him not to simply coach out the year & announce his new role after the season ended… You mean, Hugh should have let the ‘23 commits sign so they wouldn’t jump ship like Choboy did, and then delay the resignation as long as they could so very few would jump into the Dec portal, right? Really? Yes, it was a surprising resignation-but I doubt it was a rash decision by him or to the Minnesota administration. His resignation was totally honorable and exactly what you would hope all coaches would do-a resignation that gave the ‘23 commits notification before they signed on to play for a different coach than they committed to. How can that be looked back as anything but honorable? He handled it as well as he could have. He wasn’t an indentured servant, he coached until he knew he wasn’t going to do it any longer, and then he announced it. Good for Hugh…

A large reason we beat y'all today was because of the backcourt play of GG and Orzol. Was that poached too? When Franklin came over, she was nowhere close to this level of defense and serve receive. Nowhere close to this level of hitting. We trained her up. Maybe your coach can try that? Also, your team has FOUR transfers playing as starters lol. Davis, Phoebe, Murr, and Grote. Grote has literally been your best player for the majority of the season. And yet you want to try to call us out?? Transfers from Euro club teams don't count I guess. Whatever, Transfrer U is alive and well and on it's way to hosting. Good for you. It's nice being somewhere people like to go. Sorry not sorry.

I'm actually surprised THIS Wisc-MN matchup set the record. When both team are ranked, which has usually been the case in recent years (including matchups where both were in the top 10), the sports info dept and the broadcasters have that as a marketing plug and more casual volleyball fans or sports fans might tune in.

If the record hadn't fallen it would have been a pretty awful sign. 1.19 mil saw the 2021 National Championship game. That's below the baseline for whatever they throw on the afternoon slot (drag racing on 9/17 drew 1.5m, WWE Top Moments on 10/8 drew 1.4m, bowling on 10/22 drew 1.2m) so if the game hadn't toppled the previous mark it would have been rough. Dropping a 1.6m was good from a purely numbers perspective as it showed volleyball as competitive if not better than the other stuff they throw. A top-five UW-UM throwdown might have gotten to 1.8m/1.9m, but when we're talking about the casual viewers that made up the bulk of that population I don't think they were evaluating the team's performance beforehand.
