This is where I'm very confused. Yes, there is the new "hawkeye" system, but for the life of me I could not locate the cameras. The standard cameras on the pins pointing straight down the net were there. But in the old system, they had a camera at each end line. those were gone. And the long-existing camera platforms where LHN had permanent platforms for the broadcast cameras and the commentators are gone! So, if you look at the replay screen, where were those cameras? I visually searched and couldn't find where those images were broadcast from.
And it took a while to realize what I was seeing, but these are the volleyball shoes. Inside is the standard Nike swoosh. "Outside" is the swoosh blown up and flipped upside down?

Here they are using the Hawkeye for review. So, somewhere there are cameras.
In a social media post over the summer, the posting made it look like there were newer, bigger gametime screens. Someone said they probably photoshopped those bigger screens in to help make the picture. Yup, these were the some old screens. They didn't display stats during the game.
Finally, look at the center of the last picture. The player that looks unfamiliar to you is Soah Franklin. During this picture, she was laughing because a player was coming off the court and the team was giving her high fives and doing some special extra celebration and she was confused and laughed at the whole confusion.
When she finally got on the court in the 5th set, she took about 15-20 seconds and stopped and looked at us still left in the stands (1/3 of the original crowd) and smiled. I think she was so happy to be playing in a place that still had so many fans left in the 5th set of a meaningless game. And throughout the 5th set, she was constantly smiling - so happy to be playing on a good team even thought she's literally last team MB. And, she's not half bad.

Between sets you can see the players break down into their position groups to chat among themselves. For those who wonder if player A is slotted for position X or position Y, this tells you what the coaches have told them.
The surprise players was Rella Binney and Brennan Ramirez. Rella because of her serve and Brennan because of her digging. They're not supplanting Akana, but they can be brought in if a big is having serving yips.
And yes, Lauenstein was a surprise. JE played her RS on one set and then OH on the other and 6-ro in both. Her first couple of misses, I chalked it up to not playing for 2 years. But once she got warmed up......interesting!
Oh, and very little heavy arm "thump" going on. Maybe 3 from Madi and 1 from Mari. Blocking is starting from scratch, which is to be expected replacing your MB and RS.

Mari has such star potential I’m basically obsessed 🤩! You can see how much effort she’s been putting in this off-season trying to get better.

I also screen recorded the 4th so I’ll go look at that user’s instagram because they said to message them if anyone wanted the screen recording. I have been at college stuff all day, did we ever play a 6’2 and does anyone truly think Whitney is replacing wennas? Was she that good No 6-2, which I think is telling. She wasn’t better by a crazy amount, but definitely showcased more athleticism and potential OOS. Yes. It's very telling. Jerritt's obviously hiding it so he can spring it on an unsuspecting Wisconsin team. |
