This explains why JE doesn't setup more non-conference games. Look at the RPI of the lineup Texas plays this year. Yes, many of those teams will have losses, but that's a lot of top teams, 9 out of 25. BUT, if we were still in the Big12, we would be playing 6 out of the top 25.

That's not RPI

I don’t care if we are ranked #1 it’s awesome for the most part but if for some reason we have a good loss everyone freaks tf out annoys me Agreed. The only benefit of #1 is the "drop" from a loss still keeps us in the top 4-6, whereas if we started say #9 and we lost, we'd drop to #11 and then we'd have to claw our way up to the top 4 to host supers.
But yeah, having #1 on your back adds undue pressure.
I looked this up last year. The #1 preseason ranking bodes very well, too. After last year, the preseason #1 has only finished outside the Top Ten once in the last 18 years, making at least the Elite Eight 15 times, and winning the Championship 8 times. The 5 previous times Texas has started #1, they won the Championship last year, made the Elite Eight in 2021, the Final in 2020 (Spring 2021), the Elite Eight in 2017, and the Final Four in 2013.

time for my yearly gripe about preseason rankings [clears throat] i firmly believe every college sport should have at least one full month of competition before rankings come out okay, i feel better. Like the college football playoff rankings good call

When has Texas started a season ranked 9th lol it might happen next year Girl have you seen the AVCA? Considering at absolute worst Texas gets knocked out in the final four this year, the chances they rank them that low if based off how they will most likely finish this year is 0. Whether they should be or not remains to be seen next year, but for pre season they pretty much have a top 4 spot on lock.

None of that matters to the NCAA committee as the human polls are not a criteria for seeding.

I see the committee's seeding mimicking RPI a lot closer than the human polls come late November. Where a team is ranked in a pre-season poll isn't something the committee concerns themselves with, IMO.

When has Texas started a season ranked 9th lol They haven't started a season ranked lower than 4th since they were #8 in 2006. At no point have they been ranked outside of the Top 10 since 2010. And that 4-week stretch in 2010 paired with 1 week in 2006 is their only time outside the top 10 since the 2005 season.

Did you really think I was referring to the pre-season poll and not the poll at the time of the selection?

t.co/xjpGpmsqlHOk article give us nothing. Kidding, while it’s pretty surface level it’s always nice to see more mainstream coverage of the team.
