PSA for y'all attending the O/W scrimmage with your bright eyes and bushy tails new student are moving into campus this weekend. it would be wise to avoid MLK blvd It’s going to be crazy as per usual the weekend for classes begin. Especially with the construction that’s been going on in that area.

A&M always goes crazy for this match. The key thing is to follow up with it and show a semblance of that excitement for other matches. I’d never heard of Cotton Holdings before they became the title sponsor for the Texas - Texas A&M rivalry series. I assumed it had something to do with the plant, the cloth manufactured from it, or some kind of clothing line. Nope. It’s named after the initial investor, Wayne Cotton, who owns a storage and moving business in Houston and helped Cotton Holdings with their start up with financial support and getting other investors on board. I also looked to see if the principals at Cotton Holdings were Aggies or Longhorns. Turns out they’re neither, although I think their affiliations with A&M have been more extensive than with Texas over the years. Both of the founders and many of the top management came from Sam Houston State. If they were looking to create a better brand awareness I think this could be an excellent opportunity for them. I’ve never heard of them before now. The way it's scored, they might as well etch University of Texas permanently on it as I fully expect Texas to dominate every year. Except maybe a few sports here and there (baseball this year probably), Texas usually wins majority of the head to head matchups in sports against ATM.

Yeah kind of a head scratcher to me as to why A&M would agree to this, it would make much more sense to limit it to football where they have a decent chance of winning it on a given year. Not that I mind as a Texas fan, though. Also, even though I don’t subscribe to rivalries personally, I can already see that Texas is a more well rounded athletic department without a trophy.

There's an amazing nugget in here i had never known before. Jerritt Elliott wanted to be the volunteer coach at Texas. Mick Haley turned him down as the position was filled. He goes to USC as the volunteer and works his way up to the first assistant. When the head job comes open, they don't hire JE, they hire Haley for 2 years in the future when his contract with the olympic team ends. They hire JE to be the 2-year interim. So what does he do? He recruits two #1 recruiting classes (no doubt eventually playing for Haley was a part of that) and goes to the final four only to see Haley come in and take his job as planned. Haley goes on to win 2 national championships in his first 3 years with the players JE would have recruited for him as juniors and seniors. Are Mick and Jerritt friends? i was already familiar with je's story @ usc...i don't know if they are friends but mick lives in austin & attends matches on a regular basis...je commented about molly p. possibly playing for lovb atx (that's new info)

Episode One of We Are Texas is very good. And it's VERY recent, not an assembly of past shows/events. I'll have to go watch it again in slow motion as I _might_ be in the edge in one of those videos that went by quickly.

After all these years I’ve never stopped and wondered until today…Do Texas A&M and UT consider each other as their biggest in-state rivals for volleyball? I would have guessed Baylor for UT and not A&M. Or is this more of a football thing?
