I live in Illinois, but have no inside knowledge. It does seem like Illinois Volleyball has not been as successful recruiting in-state talent as I think they'd like. My innocent question is: How successful is the university at recruiting in-state talent in football, men's basketball, and women's basketball? Football is getting better, but the best players still choose the more successful out-of-state programs. Men's BB does very well, the best by far. WBB was so bad for so long, they haven't been good on that front. They are on the up-swing though and I expect in-state recruiting will improve. Thank you.

Puts us back to 1 reserve on the pins. This team cant catch a break on injuries.

The coaching staff had to be aware of the possibility Kayla would not play this year during the spring session. To their credit they brought in a quality pin transfer. Another this late in the year is probably not going to happen, particularly a transfer good enough to beat out players on our current roster. Fortunately both Taylor and Laynie are able to competently play both left and right sides, and Bingham can play opposite in a pinch.
Good luck to Kayla! I hope her volleyball career is not over and she has many years to enjoy this game.

I'm sorry to hear about Kayla. I was looking forward to her senior year as an Illini. With Kayla's departure, I've revised my projected starting lineup:
OH: Terry, Hernandez MH: Bohm, Philpot OPP: DeBoer S: Mosher L: Barnes DS: Martinez Mundo, Barry

I would still probably move Martinez to lib, but as I said this will solely be determined by performance in practice.

I completely agree - the libero position is a toss-up at this point between Martinez and Barnes.

I voted pins (OH/Opp) for a few reasons. 1.) 3 spots with one reserve. 2.) TdB health is always a question. 3.) That position shoulders most of our offensive load. 4.) More attempts mean more risk of injury. MB: We have Dean & Bingham (who was recruited as a MB) and has played more MB as her natural position. Unless you know some tea that you would care to share with us
