It sounds like the Swensons will probably redshirt. What in particular was said that leads you to this conclusion? I don't care what the excuse was -- this is fireable. If he purposefully keeps SS on the bench if Shaffmaster is struggling, that's fireable. He should be fired. "Redshirt" is a bollocks concept, in this day and age. You should be planning to go to college and play college athletics for four years. 100% correct Impressive cherrypicking around the actual point of the quoted post tbh. Yes everyone agrees sub out as need be, which in the case of Mel sounds like per eligibility it could be for Elise or Chloe this year but maybe for Stella

There was never anyone on the bench that could have replaced Mel. Several that could have played better defense than Landfair. I'm tired of people ragging on Mel. You know projected first team all big ten.

You know projected first team all big ten. I don’t think it’s multiple people dragging her. It’s one poster. But agreed. I saw time and time again Landfair not move or duck on defense. I think whoever is her replacement this year between Hanson and Acevedo, we will see more sense of urgency on defense.

Of course, you aren't either.) What in particular was said that leads you to this conclusion?

There was never anyone on the bench that could have replaced Shaffmaster. Didn't McGhie start at Rutgers? So your statement is wrong, right off the bat. That said, they tried it and it didn't go great. Fine. At least it was tried. The discussion was not last year, for Shaffmaster. It's this year, now that we DO have a viable replacement. You know projected first team all big ten. 🙄 Really dude, preseason poll? Good grief

I am glad to finally hear Cook admit that he left some players in too long. He said he was trying to show the established starters that he had confidence in them to turn things around. As a coach, I can relate to that, but as a fan it's really hard to watch. I think that strategy backfired. I'm glad to get an explanation though. It sounds like from the interview that he feels better about the depth this year and won't hesitate to pull a struggling player. I guess we'll see.

It wasn’t a coaching decision to bench Shaffmaster because of performance. I could bet anything that Shaffmaster would have started both matches if she wasn’t sick.

I just hope they’re heavily focusing on Serve & Pass. Will do wonders for Shaff’s location/consistency if she doesn’t have to run every point.

I could bet anything that Shaffmaster would have started both matches if she wasn’t sick. Sure, I buy this. That said, the discussion is clearly about this year with SS. If Shaffmaster falters, then SS had better be going in. That's all that needs to be said at this point. Let's see how it goes.

I have four tickets for Monday Sept 2nd at Fiserve Forum available (but none for Sunday).
Pretty good seats, Section 105, row 9. Courtside, but beyond the endline.
My cost was $56 per ticket. If you go to Ticketmaster, I don't think you'll find anything as good for that, once you figure in the insane TicketMaster fees.
If you're interested, let me know through direct messages.

I hope the Swenson's red shirt. I Don't think they can move us to the next notch this year and we have some great recruits next year. Am looking for a reset the next two years.

What is everyone most excited to see at the scrimmage tomorrow? Acevedo in 6 rotations. There’s so little film of her, excited to see what she can do at this point.

I hope the Swenson's red shirt. I Don't think they can move us to the next notch this year They aren't tied together in any way, shape, or form. Contrived
If SS can help us this year but Olivia Swenson cannot ... then SS should be on the court while her sister isn't. Not a shred wrong with that.
That said, there's no reason to formally redshirt them at all. Maybe they never set foot on the court all season. Maybe. Or maybe they help us out for a few sets. Or maybe one or both help us out for a significant number of sets this season, even if them being on the court doesn't end up moving the needle towards winning those matches. Doesn't matter.
Either way, they should be dressing for every home game, ready to go at a minimum. If they don't travel (I don't know if everyone on the roster travels to every away game period, or what), maybe that's fine, but I'd get them that experience anyway. Doubt it's an issue of money.
This selfish idea that you can keep someone here for five years instead of four, needs to get out of your head. It's gone

whats more selfish: playing one or both “a few sets” and wasting a whole year of eligibility or keeping their year of eligibility for them if they aren’t going to be real contributors this season…
