As a team we hit 53-11-139 (.302)
That’s great. I’m sure Keegan would love if they hit .300 every match.
Serving errors and being aced really hurt us. Questionable amount of tipping too perhaps. Hitting percent could have been even better maybe.
Idk the sky isn’t falling. For me anyway. I wasn’t convinced our passing would have a vast improvement in only the first match, so I was mentally prepared for a result like this. This felt like a toss up match and sure enough 15-13 in the tie breaker. Little bummed we couldn’t out-grit them for a win. Stanford sure did earn it with their serving. And Rubin is excellent.

Phoebe and Calissa combined for 10-2-23 (.349). 23 out of 139 swings to the middle for 17% of the attacks. Not bad considering the passing.
I thought Calissa was connecting well on the slide. There were a few that Stanford dug though. They also kept some of Hanson’s hammers from hitting the floor. Kudos to them.

Tough to terminate from the pin when getting double blocked nearly all the time. Because can't run tempo, because our setter is way too inconsistent when trying to do that, and we have zero middle offense.
This will all magically clear up in about a year.
It will be like magic. Everyone on here will standing around looking confused. No possible answer. Nothing will be able to explain it.
Umm, I'm assuming you're talking about Stanford???

These stats are telling, but don't tell enough of the story How many times did a player come to the service line? How often were their serves difficult enough to move the setter out of system? If you check the box score gophersports.com/documents/2024/9/1/Stanford_Box_Score.pdfJordan Harvey served 29x!! someone else 22x. These servers were going on runs. (how is it possible that Miner only served 9x in 5 sets? Oglivie and Rubin served in every 6 rotations and had 16 attempts each). EDIT: MINER IS THE LAST TO SERVE IN THE SIX ROTATIONS. UNSURPRISINGLY STANFORD NEVER SCORED A POINT ON HER SERVE. HER TIME AT THE LINE CAME 2X IN THE FIRST 4 AND ONCE IN THE 5TH] I suspect that after the convincing 3rd set win a suggestion was made to cut back on the service errors. Softer serving gave Stanford the opening to be in system the entire 4th set hitting over 550 and siding out near 80%. I could be all wet and will be looking at the video review and play by play.

That was a winnable match, we had them on the ropes and then couldn't close it out. Disappointing as I thought we outplayed Stanford most of the match.
Lots of bright spots though for the first match of the year. I actually thought our serve receive looked better the first two sets and then fell apart more as the match went on. Harvey's serve ate us up. Blocking was excellent, 14 blocks. We were outdug significantly but I thought our defense looked better than last year, more hustle from everyone.
Wurcherer and Hanson had some good OOS rips so that was fun to see they've been working on that. I don't remember the last time we've hit over .300 in a match?
We battled but too many missed serves and aced too many times were our fatal flaws. Hope Z can shake it off for Texas as I know they'll be relentless in their serve pressure.

I highly recommend the block/hide feature. It makes reading these threads more tolerable. ps - now he'll call me a coward, but that's not it. I'm not, nor is anyone else afraid of engaging with him, if he could just dialogue in a non-toxic manner. But he can't, so he's blocked.

I’m sure he or she is a stellar setter him or herself. Perfect even. Maybe we should give him or her a jersey. And maybe since he or she will be so busy playing there will be less time for tearing down college athletes who are literally just trying to play a game they love and get an education.

I love Z but you have to give Thibault a try tomorrow. Also, if your serving sub has 3 errors…… my goodness. Agreed. On top of her 8 RE, she also was pretty ineffective from the service line as the Gophers won only 3 of 15 points on her serve. Thibault has to be a better option for serving at least.
