I see a deep tournament team in here if we can find the consistency. Z started off so strong and then was honestly a liability by the end of the match. maybe try thibault or at least let her serve. middles were awesome, wucherer looked markedly better in all aspects, and julia is our saving grace oos. not sure if she should be playing 6 ro though. maybe keep grote in the back row?

Yeah I also don’t feel like Hanson should play 6 rotation either. Her back row defense and coverage has not been great. I would like to see Grote playing back row. Maybe even having Acevedo subbing for Hanson at the back row.

A question for Gopher fans:
is there any reason there wasn't anyone wearing a 'second libero' jersey for Minn today? And do you think - given Z's troubles today - there will be one tomorrow, if there starts to be a repeat performance?

One of which has played only as a serving sub in her time at MN. We don’t have the depth like WI to use 2 Ls. And I hope to see Thibault in the L jersey tomorrow.

I didn’t happen to notice it last match, but usually, there are 3-5 players who bring out a Lib jersey with them, in case they quick have to become (L). Up until this year, that would only happen between sets, or if the L were injured. Not sure what the rules are on declaring a second (L) after the set has started. Can it even be done? Or do you have to commit the athlete to *either* being able to sub in for someone, *or* to be able to go in as a second (L) before the set starts?

So much negativity towards Hanson and Zeynep Palabiyik.
It's so toxic.

But she isn't being used for three rotations. One of the uses of dressing a second libero is if you're first libero is getting pounded, you're not stuck with her the entire set.

Of course I'm only kidding.
No, I don't do fake things of calling something "toxic" as a dysphemism simply because I don't like it.

When I noticed that neither Minn nor Stanford had a second libero dressed, the question that occurred to me was "if the first libero gets hurt, can you still have somebody quickly put on a libero jersey and replace her, or was that opportunity forfeited at the start of the set when nobody was already the designated second libero?" New rules, new questions...

Kate Thibault was DS for Grote. She can’t do that if she’s in a libero jersey with Z. Gray, Acevado, Ng, McGhie, ... Not sure what to tell you. As someone said, Gray is apparently only suited for serving substitutions. McGhie used to serve for the middle but it seems she was saved for the dub sub which was deployed once this afternoon. Ng is another player that has hardly played so I doubt she would suddenly become a DS for Grote.
