Keegan’s career defining opportunity as Minnesota’s HC could be his ability to surround Julia Hanson with good players next season. This imo is a must. She’s too good of a talent to waste with another erratic team. She easily has 1st team AA potential next year. It’s important if KC wants success next season to bring in a starting pin, starting middle, and a reliable Lib/DS in from the portal. The good news is that Acevedo looks like she at least has a future as a solid DS and a best case scenario being a Gabby Gonzales type OH as an upperclassmen which you’d take all day long. Not sure her front row abilities will be playable by next season though. Stella should be a big upgrade at setter as soon as she takes the reins. Hopefully Kinney’s game translates well to high major college ball and is ready to go next year as she is needed. Agree with everything you said. It would be a disservice to his team to settle on the current roster and “hope” for improvement(specifically in SR). He hoped wucherer would be better this year… in fact, I think she has declined. Her hitting has improved, but SR has not. I think Acevedo can get there. She is just a redshirt freshman, and has years to figure it out. He needs to put the best players on the court but his track record tells me otherwise. I keep forgetting that Acevedo just turned 19 and could have a bright future if coach gives her time to develop. Correct me if I’m wrong but this is the first game that she was ever allowed to play 6 rotations?

Saying Stella will be a big upgrade seems a little premature. I agree she she had a great prep career, but Mel has been playing great this season. I’m trying to say this in a way that doesn’t sound demeaning because I don’t mean to give it that impression, but you won’t find many people (who don’t have a stake in the situation) who are very involved in the game of volleyball who would tell you that she has smooth dynamic hands or is capable of setting with any level of consistency when it comes to tempo and location. She does some things well, but setting is not one of them. With all due respect, you failed miserably at not sounding demeaning.

I actually feel good after last night, despite three losses in a row. Was happy the Gophers could do something after that disastrous first set (of course I recognize Neb's high level of play). Still have no idea what the tournament will look like. Hosting is out, yet I could see them making a sweet 16 run, upsetting a higher seed - or not. They're range of play is still very wide, so naturally performance and results are all over the place.

My thoughts on the game: - I'm so glad we rebounded after that first set - Set 2 we started competing, everyone stepped up and it was noticeable. They really can play well when they try their hardest and are locked in. - Hanson is an AA. Someone said she should be 3rd team, I think she can make 2nd. Next year who knows. - Our defense was much better 2nd set on. We were picking things up we haven't been lately. - Nebraska's defense is so good, we had a hard time finding the floor, they also got so many block touches to slow us down. - In sets 1 and 4 we had way too many hitting errors - It's hard to know how tough we were serving because Nebraska can pass so well, but I think we did relatively well. Too many SE at the wrong time though. - To me, Acevado brings an intangible which effects our whole team chemistry. It's slight but when you can rely on everyone on the court to do their job, to the best of their ability, things are smoother. Maybe she just needs to play 3 ro backrow, not sure, but she needs to be out there more. She competes. - We passed reasonably well, I'm proud of them for putting in the extra work with reps. I could tell they were lower and more stable in their platforms when they were passing. Keep it up!! - I really do not want to go to Creighton. Would Kansas be an option for us?

Beat Michigan on Sunday and we’ll most likely hold onto the 16th position. What is impressive to me about this group is that they shook off the disappointment of a very disjointed first set and put the hammer down in the second to get back in the match. We gave ourselves a good chance to take the 3rd game, but came up short. Got behind big in the 4th, but came back to make the Huskers nervous about the finish. IMO they should give Wookie the rest of the Big Ten season off to get some intensive therapy for her upper body problems in hopes that she can play again in the tournament. This also gives Alex Acevedo more playing time to sharpen up her hitting chops. She’s been a great addition to the lineup.

The 16th position you reference is the AVCA poll, which is not used by the Tournament Selection Committee to form their bracket.

Oh yeah they had the last seed in the committee's projection BEFORE dropping to Wash and Oregon. Does a second win over badgers bring them back into the convo? I think they'd fall 16-18 range at that point, in which case longer survival in the tourney is probably at that 18 ish spot. Not like they've been playing great at home anyway lol?

A win like that would, but at this point it looks like a "just missed" situation. The PNW school losses weren't bad on paper in the sense of "worst loss" even though it certainly FELT bad. It's not like the lost weekend of 2023. There could be traffic jams or worse upsets that could let Minny sneak in there but that would take lots of bad fringe losses and obviously you can't just rely on everyone else around you to lose. They need to win the games they "should" be winning. That ILL game is looking pretty important.
