Oh yeah they had the last seed in the committee's projection BEFORE dropping to Wash and Oregon. Does a second win over badgers bring them back into the convo? I think they'd fall 16-18 range at that point, in which case longer survival in the tourney is probably at that 18 ish spot. Not like they've been playing great at home anyway lol? A second win over Badgers would boost minny big time but its more likely Wisconsin waxes the gophers. Wisconsin is peaking....they held USC to 0.079 hitting last night and gave up 50 total points. Gophers will be an underdog at Wisconsin of course but to predict a wax this early is hilarious

Husker fan here. I was Interested in reading your take on the game and I agree with many of the comments. Your floor defense was outstanding and the gophers got a lot of good touches too. Nebraska's hitting percentage was one of the lowest of the year and I do not attribute to self inflicted errors. I thought your service pressure was well above average, but of course the errors really hurt. I thought your team passed well most of the game...I was wondering at time if your passing was strong or if Nebraska was serving a little weak. Overall, really impressed with your team. Cut some bad errors and it could have been a five set toss up.

Agree with everything you said. It would be a disservice to his team to settle on the current roster and “hope” for improvement(specifically in SR). He hoped wucherer would be better this year… in fact, I think she has declined. Her hitting has improved, but SR has not. I think Acevedo can get there. She is just a redshirt freshman, and has years to figure it out. He needs to put the best players on the court but his track record tells me otherwise. I keep forgetting that Acevedo just turned 19 and could have a bright future if coach gives her time to develop. Correct me if I’m wrong but this is the first game that she was ever allowed to play 6 rotations? she played against the badgers earlier and a few other teams as well at 6ro if I remember correctly. She seems like a hitter who could do better with a tempo set a la Oregon (where she didn’t get the start either) rather than the sky balls Minnesota is using. I miss the old Minnesota offense. Swenson pls return us to the promise land

I think that Minnesota’s high hitting and service errors were because we needed to really go for it against such a tough team on the road. High risk, high reward. Of course some bad SE’s late in the 3rd set when we needed it the most. Our defense was better and passing seemed improved. I was not impressed by Nebraska’s serve however. Felt like way too easy at times. Haven’t watched them much to know if that was typical.

Teams normally struggle to pass them because of who they target and of course serving the seams. While way above my expertise, it always seems like they have solid serving strategies (hit their target and set up their block and d accordingly). They are pretty average in aces per set, but I suspect their opponent passing stats are not. I love to hear someone more knowledgeable than me weigh in.

I’m trying to say this in a way that doesn’t sound demeaning because I don’t mean to give it that impression, but you won’t find many people (who don’t have a stake in the situation) who are very involved in the game of volleyball who would tell you that she has smooth dynamic hands or is capable of setting with any level of consistency when it comes to tempo and location. She does some things well, but setting is not one of them. With all due respect, you failed miserably at not sounding demeaning. I completely disagree. I thought the OP totally hit the nail on the head in a clear, diplomatic, and fair way. Sort of wild that said language antagonizes you.

You won't see crazy top spins or funky hybrids like SMU, but they clearly trust in their defense to get their job done.

Keegan’s career defining opportunity as Minnesota’s HC could be his ability to surround Julia Hanson with good players next season. This imo is a must. She’s too good of a talent to waste with another erratic team. She easily has 1st team AA potential next year. It’s important if KC wants success next season to bring in a starting pin, starting middle, and a reliable Lib/DS in from the portal. The good news is that Acevedo looks like she at least has a future as a solid DS and a best case scenario being a Gabby Gonzales type OH as an upperclassmen which you’d take all day long. Not sure her front row abilities will be playable by next season though. Stella should be a big upgrade at setter as soon as she takes the reins. Hopefully Kinney’s game translates well to high major college ball and is ready to go next year as she is needed. Agree with everything you said. It would be a disservice to his team to settle on the current roster and “hope” for improvement(specifically in SR). He hoped wucherer would be better this year… in fact, I think she has declined. He needs to put the best players on the court but his track record tells me otherwise. I agree, there are players like Acevedo and Gilk who have potential to be solid enough starting pins at some point, but it’s best not to bank on that being for next year. And for that reason they need experience and talent coming in via the portal if Hanson establishes she wants a highly competitive team in order for her to stick around. I think Coach Cook owes it to Hanson to have an honest post season meeting with her and explain to her how he plans to make her final season (potentially a 1st/2nd team AA one) a winning one and how he plans to field a nationally competitive roster. Not sure how Keegan and KK feel, but imo an ideal offseason looks like this. -Starting Opposite via portal and Zeynep DSing for said Oppo. Her digging has proven it can be streaky and good at times. Her passing is erratic. -Starting middle in the portal and then have Taylor/Minatee/Engeman battle it out for the other spot -Starting libero via portal (unless Garr is that good) -Hanson at OH, Stella at setter, Acevedo at DS -Kinney as the other outside potentially I don’t find it likely that Crowl, Schnichels, or even Wucherer would have high usage roles on a team that is significantly improved over this year’s (and last year’s) squad.

I feel you are just keeping it real. - Also, we have not been as successful recruiting highly talented players in the portal like other top tier programs. - Right now, who can seriously replace Awoleye and Grote and what they have brought to this team? - We thought our middle game was better this season..however, how many teams have beaten us with their middle game?

They’re only college kids🙂 I hope this doesn’t come off as tone-deaf because it’s really not the intention of my response. I agree with everything she said. I was a student-athlete as well and criticism can be harsh, but usually we are our own worst critics. So what us fans think of her game, she probably thinks 10x worse. With that being said, this really just makes me wonder why Keegan is putting her through it knowing she’s battling an injury and knowing it’s the weakest part of her game. It is clear as day she is struggling out there, but maybe this is all part of Keegan’s “holistic” approach to coaching or whatever…..
