By the end of this year I hope to see DEVELOPMENT of our PINS and our Defense both mentally and physically...KCook needs to do whatever it takes to make this happen.
It is nice we have a setter who can score but she should not be one of our top scorers in a given match.

Sometimes it seems like a single point is the linchpin to a set victory or loss. What part of Phoebe touched the net at 17-19 in the 4th? rewatched set 2 outside of Grote's going off for 8K it just seemed like good VB. 13 kills, USC had 3 SEs and 5HEs, we had 1 SA and 3 blocks.
During the set, I noticed Grote received 3 exquisite backsets from 3 very different locations that were right in her 'kill' zone. to be sure the hitting %s were a big reversal in MN's favor. 258 to 111 from .108 vs .286. LENGTHY SIDEBAR: For a NPOY candidate like Sarah Franklin it would seem there is no spot on the court that doesn't allow her to be in the 'kill zone'. In particular, the designed back row attacks we experience watching her and trying to defend Batenhorst. why is Hanson the only back row attacker with a reliable (fast) attack for a kill? MN NEEDS A LOT MORE PIPE AND D BALL PRACTICE REPS

Minatee
vs UCLA 11 0 21 vs USC 3 4 10
Did coach have a conversation after pulling her early in set 2? She had a HE in set1 on a set that was maybe too wide (awkward looking landing). The line shot went wide and left me wondering on plays like these if the hitter is accounting for the speed of her drift toward the sideline when in the air. After the pxp announcer raved about a 4x4 kill, Minatee was blocked on an underset that could not be attacked. Kali Engeman was inserted. Did Calissa need a break, a talking to, a consoling for the rough connections? She had trouble diagnosing Tuaniga's set decisions a few times and left USC hitters a few 1 on nones and a wide open court.

It appears that 2024 Big Ten VB can be divided into 5 tiers: 1) Nebraska, Penn St., Wisconsin (final 4 contenders) 2) Oregon, Purdue, USC, Washington, Minnesota (each capable of a respectable run at NCAA tournament) 3) Michigan, UCLA, Illinois, Ohio St, Indiana (two or three of these will be selected to NCAA tournament) 4) Maryland, Michigan St (treading water, going nowhere) 5) Northwestern, Iowa, Rutgers (doormats of Big Ten VB)

But because I'm a contrarian, I see 7 tiers. 1. Neb 2. Penn St, Wisc 3. Purdue, USC 4. Minny, Oregon, WA 5. IL, IN, MI, OSU, UCLA 6. MD, MSU 7. Iowa, NW, Rut OSU is interesting. Londot's great, but from what I understand they've had a lot of injuries.

So if we don't see Wucherer in the next week or two I think we know where this is going... I'm sure I will get yelled at for saying this; but, just my opinion I do not want to see a redshirt situation. We got some pins coming in that from the looks of it will be 6 rotation players. Next year we would have Wookie, Acevedo, Hanson, and Kinney. The following, if Wookie is still around you have to add in Crosson (dont think I spelled that right) I don't want to see either her or Kinney leave the program. Also, I don't think my heart can handle two more years of Wookie passing lol Also, I really hope Cook is not planning on redshirting Kinney next year.......

I would rather not see Wookie with a redshirt, but honestly, my main reason is that I don't want her to have a season ending injury. (On the other hand, I want them to make sure she is fully healthy before putting her back on the court!)

I am with you too that I want them to put her back only when she is fully healthy and not rushing it. Whether she will redshirt or not I hope will depend on her injury recovery and nothing else.

The following, if Wookie is still around you have to add in Crosson. Though in '26 we will have Wookie, Acevedo, Swanson, Kinney and Crosson. And that is some insane depth in the OH position.
