Unrelated to Gophers '24 but I just saw that Shea Rubright is second in the nation in hitting % at San Diego State with .476?! NEVER would've seen that coming. It’s nice she was able to bounce back from injury. Happy for her! One of those 6 year players out there. Crazy to think she was at the last Minnesota final 4 appearance.

It’s been lighter competition but Grote is 36-3-63 (.524) in the three matches since the USC loss. Really hope that trend continues Sunday! Will require a team effort of course. Lots of defense please!

It was hard to focus as a viewer Standouts: Acevedo with service runs winning 6 and 5 and Grote with a 5 MN 12-3 block advantage Grote 11 0 15 .733 in sets 1 & 2 (sat out set 3) Shaff seemed more strategic in her attacks 4 0 5 .800 We play OSU in Columbus a week from Sunday and our last match in November at home. They were a swing away from upsetting PSU in 5 sets Friday night Their lauded freshman, Emmi Sellman, was a revelation: 27 kills and a 'no prisoners' attitude. She didn't play during the non-conference schedule. ohiostatebuckeyes.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/emmi-sellman/11347

I'm tired of the announcer saying Shaffmaster is one of the best setters in the country. The only true way to test this would be to trade with a team that has some other supposedly great setter, and see how the teams fare after the trade.
I'm game, let's do it!
The other team's middles would be pissed though.

But she was tall!

I know this won't be a popular opinion. Not that I care.
Redshirts should not get to travel. If you've purposefully declared that you won't be helping the team this season, then you should not get the perks. Dress for home games, fine.
Don't worry, this would never happen. I'm sure Momma Swenson would be so far up Cook's a$$, if he actually tried to implement this, that she'd emerge from his spine like in The Substance.

Compared to the potential drawbacks of not having a player on your bench should they become necessary with an injury. And wouldn’t that harm team chemistry? Away games are huge for developing bonds when teammates room and travel together(Not trying to be sarcastic - genuinely wanting to know why you think this).

If Shaff went down in the first set against Penn State, guaranteed that Swenson would not go in for the entire match. Huh? I assume the sisters room together. They're just glorified cheerleaders, this season. If they aren't there, I can't see how it affect chemistry.

They're just glorified cheerleaders, this season. If they aren't there, I can't see how it affect chemistry. A redshirt is not something that is declared. When a player doesn’t play for an entire season, they can apply for a redshirt and it is granted by the NCAA. Redshirts can also be burned. For example, in the case of Deandre Pierce at Texas, they were planning on redshirting her and had to insert her into a game when O’Neal went down. That burned her redshirt by default. The whole point of redshirting a player as well is to get them experience and practice when they aren’t yet ready to play at the college game (for many reasons) so they have ample preparation for when they are. That experience comes in the form of the tangible practices, yes, but the intangibles of knowing how to adjust to travel, knowing how to be part of the bench in a hostile away environment, and having learned a team’s procedures for away games seems just as important. The adjustment to the college game is always difficult for freshman, and these are all factors. Again, you didn’t really tell me the benefits of not bringing them. You just expressed that you don’t think they should. That’s fine, but so what if they’re glorified cheerleaders? It certainly doesn’t hurt, and can only help future team chemistry.

When a player doesn’t play for an entire season, they can apply for a redshirt and it is granted by the NCAA. Even though this is technically wrong (you don't have to apply for anything with the NCAA, with a regular redshirt ... you simply are given 5 years to participate in 4 seasons, from the git go), I wasn't talking about anything with the NCAA. I was talking about players who purposefully are not playing this year, even though we could use them, in order to have four more years to align with the 2025 class. By choice. Fine. But then you shouldn't get to travel and enjoy that perk of being on the team.

Why don’t you kwitcher bitchin about whether Stella (in particular) is failing to meet *your* expectations of what she should be doing with her collegiate career?

Imagine how bad it would be for recruiting if your program policy was that you don't travel with the team if you're redshirting. And if it was a department policy because of budget reasons, I'd find a new job if I were the coach.

Half the season is on the road, do you want to deprive player development? if Mel and Elyse go down, who’s the setter? Perks? What perks? Do you know how grinding a season is? It’s crazy. Imagine an NFL team drafted a QB as #1 in draft, but want him to sit a year to adjust, because their current QB-say, Eli Manning-is pretty good. Do you not bring that QB to 8 away games to listen, learn, and improve? Of course not. *Are you suggesting we should use Stella over Mel? Bruh.

What makes you think traveling is a perk? They have already traveled all over the country with their club teams. Sounds like fun doing homework on a bus, getting home at 4 in the morning and having a 8 am class. Trying to sleep in a noisy hotel room. Don't mention the food.
