Anyone know why Grote did not dress? I assume you were at the match? On the broadcast the announcers said she’s out with an undisclosed injury. They also made it sound like Wucherer is still day to day even though she’s been playing (see: starting against Penn State but not being able to finish the first set plus moving awkward at times last night against Northwestern.) Really hope they’re not both sitting out the Ohio State match. Hanson would have to replicate last nights performance and then some. Wucherer took some great swings last night and played good defense at the net and in the back row. Against Londot and Sellman I think we need her if Grote is still out. I'm more concerned about Rader than Sellman. I think Sellman is hitting somewhere around .100 on the season so far. She did have a night against Penn but has had several struggle matches as well when facing ranked opponents. I'd be surprised if we don't target her serving. Good for her though landing on a roster where she gets to work through the Freshman ups and downs on the floor.

Fun fact: among big 10 teams, for conf and non-conf combined, Minn is currently tied with Oregon for lowest opponent hitting percentage.

This is confusingly worded:
New or upgraded membership and donations to Dinkytown Athletes through Nov. 10 will be matched “one to one” by Pearson and Nepsis. Pearson, a 1987 graduate of the U, said he has so far committed to contribute up to $1 million. The proceeds will head to the Gophers football and volleyball teams.
The first part reads like he is simply matching anyone who signs up or upgrades their membership. Dinky Ath supports any and all sports, though you are allowed to specify specific sports (and maybe even specific athletes, but not as sure on that one) with your donation.
So .... is he only match if the person specifies football and/or volleyball?
Poorly worded

So before the next match on real TV (Oregon), they play two matches that should be automatic wins and would be simply embarrassing if they lose (OSU and MSU both 1-8 in conf right now) and then two (on paper at least) more challenging matches against Michigan and Washington.

"Redshirts" travel with the team because the 'redshirt' can be removed at any time; because of injury or performance, Then why isn't that true in football? "Because they already have so many other players who aren't redshirting" Volleyball doesn't?? I just counted the Gopher roster: 17 players. Minus Swensons is 15. You know that only 6 players can be on the court at the same time, right .... ? So you're saying those other 7-8 players are .... just on the roster for looks??

I'm not sure why this is coming now, or why you sound so hostile... As far as football goes, Big Ten teams like Minnesota and Wisconsin have large rosters that include 'scout team' players who have little to no chance of getting into a game. My nephew-in-law was such a player at Wisconsin for a year; practiced as a scout team player, dressed for home games, but did not travel to away games. I'm guessing that maybe only two-thirds of the 100-plus player roster generally travels to away games? Volleyball: obviously, travelling with a 16-18 player roster is a whole lot easier and more affordable than travelling with 100 player roster. I am actually aware of how many players are on the court at one time. I am also aware that substitution rules and commonly applied strategies means that somewhere between 7 and 10 players will see time on the floor - sometimes more than 10. My statement that "'Redshirts' travel with the team because the 'redshirt' can be removed at any time; because of injury or performance" is (or was) correct, for both football and for volleyball. Again, my guess would be that a player "removing a redshirt because of injuries" might have been MORE common in football, prior to the NCAA changing the redshirt rules three years ago or so, making the rules less 'strict' or 'absolute' for football than for other sports. (The rule for football is now that a player can play in as many as four games, and still 'redshirt'; there was talking about a similar change for basketball, but I don't think that ever happened.)

Coincidentally, last night during the Penn State-USC match, the TV announcers mentioned that in 2022 current USC starting left Adonia Faumuina was a freshman who had not played at all and was 'redshirting' when the current starting setter Mia Tuaniga was injured before the final regular season match. So Faumiuna 'burned' her redshirt, took over setting for the final regular season match, and USC's first round NCAA tournament match (Tuaniga was back for their second match, though the two played some version of a 6-2 in the match, which USC lost.) There was no "travel" involved, but still, an interesting coincidence.

Sure.
If Shaff went down on a Friday home match and the coaching staff then decided to put Swenson as starter for the final regular season home match on a Sat/Sun, that is their prerogative as the coaching staff.
As you noted, that has nothing to do with travel.
