Washington beat Oregon in 5. Nervous for how next week will play out. Oregon will want some wins again and Washington seemed to be playing well too. They were undefeated for a good bit. unfortunately K Barton was injured at 7-11 in the 5th, and before that she basically had a set's worth of points on her own. :/

I remember that. That was on a different level.

Finally got around to watching the podcast posted above while winding down last night. Sounds like Julia really wants to forget the LA trip lol. And she said others on the team were sick too. Poor girl was the only one running for a trash can on camera though. Shoutout to her middle school neighbor that helped make her switch from gymnastics to volleyball happen lol (can you imagine how high she'd get during vault and floor exercise?)
I like how they all wanted to pick Skylar for the one question about giving kudos to someone on the team who maybe goes unnoticed. She is getting a liiiiiiittle bit more playing time this year. Julia says her defense has improved a lot in the last two years. The passing must really be a tossup otherwise you'd think we'd see her more in that regard. Glad that Phoebe gave Kali a shoutout. I have been impressed whenever she has gotten time to play. Small sample size but she seems to have a heavy arm and maybe because she gets up before everyone on road trips and voluntarily works out in the hotel gym. Love the work ethic and really glad she's a Gopher!

Why is the figstats RPI for Minnesota such an anomaly? As of Nov. 2, its RPI with bonuses has the Gophers at 31. Pablo (Oct. 28) has them at 15, Massey (Nov. 2) at 14, the AVCA (Oct. 28) at 15, and the committee (Oct. 19) at 16. Figstats ranks the Gophers SoS 54th; Massey has it at 12 for games played so far, and at 6 for the entire schedule. Does the NCAA claim it uses figstats? That doesn't seem to be the case for the committee -- at least so far.

Is it just me or should Acevedo be getting some of Wucherer's playing time? I'm not sure that I can point to what Wucherer does well (it's not serving or receiving serve!).

But it’s obvious she’s still injured so I’m not opposed to Acevedo playing her back row at all.

My post was more a general bemoaning of how much Wucherer has underperformed to expectations. Perhaps that's related to an underlying injury. My impression, however, is that she does not seem to possess much mental competitive toughness, demonstrated by her tentativeness, inconsistency, and body language. All this is changeable.

I have to agree with you, she has not improved year over year and this year she looks like she’s in pain every time she puts an effort to stand up. Something is off and not sure why the coaches won’t give Acevedo kid more court time.

I mean… Wuchs is consistently a top point scorer and hit .241 last night. I get that she hasn’t reached expectations and the criticism is justified but she’s much more physical than Acevedo (so far) which is an advantage in the B1G especially and more terminal on OOS balls.
Backrow is a toss up to me though, Acevedo has been out of position on defense more often than Wuchs but I agree that I’d like to see Acevedo play back row for Wuchs in some of these “easier” matches. Her SR seems more consistent but at the same time, Wuchs has gotten markedly better post injury in SR.
Acevedo will get her time and she has solidified her spot in my head as one of the best SS in the NCAA right now. I could see her and Kinney being a similar OH duo to Sis and Martin for creighton in the future. Lots of upside but she still plays like a freshman IMO
And watching Wuchs rip off of Stella during the Euro matches was so refreshing. She strikes me as a pin who’s particular about her setters. If you’ve ever watched her and Stucky together, she plays up to those expectations we have for her. I’m hopeful we may see more confidence out of her when Stella takes the reigns because I agree she looks too easily deflated sometimes

I think Acevado needs to work on consistency, blocking, and a range of shots to take the spot from a returning starter. I think she's close and would like to see her more up front for a struggling Wurcherer as needed.
Wurcherer can be so dang good but she just hasn't "gotten it" yet like Hanson has. Something finally clicked for Hanson and she's eating it up. Wurcherer hasn't gotten there yet and I'm not sure why. I'm sure it's super frustrating for her as well.
I think Hanson connects really well with Shaff but Wurcherer not as much. So maybe next year will be her break out season with Swenson setting.
