why, then, did the seeding committee give us the last seed in mid-October? You're right, the team has won every match since Oct 19. I've said this all along and it has largely continued to remain true: this team has beat the teams its supposed to beat, the teams that are beneath them. Other than that bad Washington match that immediately preceded being swept by Oregon, I don't think they've had a single match loss to a team currently beneath it in the Big Ten standings.
But they've lost to pretty much everyone else. Other than Wisconsin at home early in the year, when Wisc played basically poorly as humanly possible, and now that was just negated with the loss in Madison.
That's better than last year, for sure. But it puts them solidly at 7th in the conference. Too many losses. That's not top 16.

I would agree about first team all-B1G this year. It would be lunacy if she were left off that list. Has to be AA of some level. Third team at absolute lowest, IMO. I still think it’s wild that she flew under the radar (on the bench) for two years, behind two previous number one recruits, and is now outplaying both. What a glow up. The ratings/rankings on Landfair and Wucherer were just ... wrong.
They're never going to be perfect all the time, but we just got two who didn't develop to their supposed potential.

I also very much like the idea of a girl who grew up in Minnesota, cheering for the Gophers, and dreamed of playing for the Gophers. For the University of Minnesota. No other reason. No matter who the coach is.
NOT, came here because they thought McCutcheon would give them the best development for their future pro/Olympic careers and that's the only care they have for the U.

Shaffmaster will be first team. Because she's below-average at the actual skill of setting a volleyball? At being able to take a below-average pass and do something with it other than send a high ball to the outside?
I get that she's great at all the other aspects .... but man, it feels like actual setting should matter the most.

Somewhere near the end of set 1 or likely the start of set 2, Melani Shaffmaster will record her 5,000th career assist.
She is 12 shy heading into tonight's match.

I mean, Landfair won B1G player of the year two years ago and was first team AA. She's starting on the #2 team in the country right now and could very well win a national championship. But yes on Wookie.

Shaffmaster will be first team. If not first, second for sure. Of course, even then we'll have posters on this board, or at least one, who still will think they're better at evaluating Mel's game than the big10 coaches who scout her, play against her, and vote her in.

I really like where the team is at and think Keegan did a great job getting them there.
I don't think many teams want to see Minnesota in their bracket on Sunday.

We need to see a healthy Kenna Agree 100%. We're not seeing that now. It is obvious that she has back issues that affect her ability to jump. That she is willing to play through her injury--whether the coaching staff should let her, being a different question--is to her credit. McKenna, if healthy, could very well turn out to be another Gopher who, like Wilhite and Harms, really blossomed in her senior season.

But if they think she's worthy of the first team, that's quite an accolade. They're the experts.
