Part of the difficulty and no doubt frustration of being an outside hitter here during the current era is that 80% of the sets go to the outside while nearly 0% are sets at the net in the actual middle of the net.
And starting at some point last season, continuing fulling this season, they're all high, slow sets. Perhaps that allows greater consistency in location, fair enough.
But the result is that opposing blocks have time to smoke a cigarette, get dressed, and then go camp out on the outside.
As an outside here during this era, you've just had to make do as best you can. You either try to hit line or sharp cross, with varying levels of errors, you tip, roll, or do that stupid waste of time two handed put over, which when the opponent is ready for that it is basically just a free ball, or you smash the ball as hard as you can and hope like hell that it magically catches the right angle to either blast through the block or go out of bounds, the "spray and pray" method.

So yeah, maybe with the change in setter next year, Wucherer will suddenly get a lot more effective attacking.
Regardless, she should never see the back row here again.
And that more than any other reason, if she/her family still think she has a shot to be a high level outside, even professionally, would be the reason she would consider transferring.
But KCook has let her do pretty much anything she has wanted while here. So I don't see why he won't just put her right back into the back row as soon as she demands it.

Question!
I will be at the Minnesota vs Illinois match tomorrow, as I am an Illinois student (but will be wearing my Minnesota shirt lol). I am really hoping to get a picture with a couple of the players, but understand if its not logistically feasible. Do any of you have any tips/experience getting pictures with players at away matches? Is it good to do before the start of the match? Do they even come back out to the court afterwards? Please help!

Please help! hi, I saw them in FL when they played back in ‘23 and in my experience they came out after! When I saw them, they were saying hi to the FL teammates, and did take photos with other fans! Definitely had to wait a good bit as they’ve changed and had to pack up but they did come back unto the court! Not sure if it’ll be different since this is a conference game in terms of how quickly they’re trying to get back? But hope this helps a bit

Referring to the penultimate point in the Wisconsin match when Orzol looked to be under the net on the Minnesota side I noticed this live and briefly wondered why there was no call/challenge, because she was fairly clearly over. My guess is that it was a "affecting the play" type call, since I think the ball was already in the MN back court at that point/hitters had transitioned so she wasn't interfering with anything on the other side. Again, just my speculation. I noticed this and wondered about it. What does the rule say - if it doesn't affect play, is it allowed? I officiate HS volleyball, and there it is called regardless. However, I've seen this in other college matches and it wasn't called, so I'm wondering about the wording of the rule. 15.1.3.2 It is not a fault to penetrate into the opponents’ space under the net, provided that this does not interfere with the opponents’ play but I have seen refs blow a whistle when someone's foot is completely under the net, so who knows?

I am appreciative of the press conferences they post weekly, but man, I wish we could hear the questions being asked!

Turn on close captioning I watch on youtube
The Qs are almost all softballs Q. You’ve set benchmarks of Middle attacks at 20% and sideout % at 60% .serve reception has improved Can you have success next month Without a respectable middle attack?

It's a Wowza Wednesday so far as every contest so far has been to Minnesota's benefit
So. Carolina defeated Florida. I think that eliminates FLA from hosting Stanford came back to reverse sweep Ga Tech 15' before the Illinois match and Iowa State is up 2sets to 1 against Utah.
I see no way that Utah can be a top 16 seed if they lose to RPI 158 today Utah pulled it out in the 5th 15-12? Dang
We need to see real fire from the Gophers. A sweep would certainly help. As well as a Washington at home beating USC
I would like to believe the NCAA would like an excuse to have a venue with over 5,000 in attendance the first weekend.

Indeed, I never said or implied that it's impossible for an OH to succeed in such an offense.
It just makes it maximally hard on the OH.

We had those early losses, including Purdue the first week of conference play and our rpi had already fallen by then, no?

The most important thing I witnessed tonight, even more than the win, which most folks think doesn't matter much:
Minnesota's composure in the face of major score adversity two sets in a row. Should reinforce the squad's belief in themselves at just the right time.
We saw the team fold under similar conditions against strong serving teams earlier in the season

Should reinforce the squad's belief in themselves at just the right time. We saw the team fold under similar conditions against strong serving teams earlier in the season I can't say I watched, but what strikes me is how good and consistently good an attacker Julia has been. Her hitting numbers were good in pre-conference but are clearly better, indeed superb, in conference play. Tonight, she had more than 40% of Minnesota's attacks and you know the blockers knew who'd be getting the set, and still she put up great numbers.
