Jaime Santer announced that she will be playing indoor for Wake Forest for her last year of eligibility. Wonder if she and UH considered her staying here instead of that move. And if not, why not?

Curious if RAM was considering someone else for beach to indoor. Maybe Jaime knew she would have too much competition at UH. Kaylee Glagau was supposed to be UH indoor at one point, Sarah Burton has trained with the Australian Indoor National Team, and I personally wanted to see Ciara Cantlen play indoors. Thelle and Lawrenz were also mentioned here and there

With her having miss her jr year of HS and possibly her senior year, she will no doubt redshirt and take that one year to get used to D1 speed in practice and get ready to contribute in 2025. One year of practice playing against Caylen, Mili, Tali, etc….would be better for her progress than to play a year of HS ball against inferior opponents. The strength and conditioning program at UH will also be more beneficial for her physically. In my opinion, she is not head and shoulders above her competition at the HS/club level. Now, I am not saying that if she came in early that a year of training wouldn't help but redshirt years can go awry, especially if the athlete isn't quite ready. Sometimes your body and mind just isn't ready to train at a particular level and when I watched her play recently I think that she still has some maturing to do before getting into a college weight room and practice gym. Nevertheless, she has some great skills that will serve her well when she enters the college game.

Idk…I don’t think Reid reclassifying is the move whatsoever. I actually think it is a very bad one, especially considering the gaps in her training currently and what our ACTUAL needs are. We don’t need an even more inexperienced first year player. We need a difference maker.

Maybe nobody in the portal is worth the scholarship according to the coaches. If Robyn thinks it’s a good idea then it’s her choice to bring in Chalei early.
Chalei played club for Robyn so Robyn has seen her up close and personal.
I also am not seeing the benefit of retuning and playing in the OIA, which is not really great volleyball. If she played in the ILH, the private school league, then maybe another year of HS would make sense since the ILH is historically a league that put out top notch girl volleyball players. Kahuku and the OIA, not really. What if the Kahuku HS coaches are not good coaches and would hamper her progress more than help? What if the teaching/training at Kahuku clashes with what she learned from coach Ah Mow?
The Kahuku coach also kicked Chalei off the team for going on a recruiting trip instead of being there for the team. How does Chalei get by that?

For me, it's not just the competition from her peers but also what she is ready for. Again, when I watched her a few months ago she looked good but nothing that I would call high level yet. Also, I haven't seen Robyn and her staff train a great hitter from bottom up. Maybe Chalei will be the first feather in their cap. Good point about missed high school season. I think that season off hurt Chalei's overall development. Even so, she is an impressive player who will be a good one for the Wahine.

Jaime Santer announced that she will be playing indoor for Wake Forest for her last year of eligibility. Wonder if she and UH considered her staying here instead of that move. And if not, why not? She as with most graduates who are transferring elsewhere will be enrolling in graduate school at Wake Forest. So guess what, if they have funds for her schooling as well as the degree program she got accepted into, then it makes perfect sense for her.

No news yet? This thread is on page 3! This has to be the most boring off season to date!

Chalei reclassifying makes sense, so she is one of the scholarships for next year even if she will be enrolling in Spring 2025 because the scholarship would need to be for the academic year. With that being said I believe the Wahine have two scholarships (one vacated because Paula left) and are trying to find a transfer…

Kate could be using NIL for the upcoming season, since she said on social media she is only doing one more online class. We could actually have more than just the one scholarship available.

So that would make 3 scholarships available. Didn’t Koa say that we will have 3 news player in the fall…other than those signed? Koa is right on cue. Just hope a couple are impactful.

I’m still hopeful but I heard there wasn’t a lot of good talent in the May portal window and I haven’t heard or seen anything indicating we signed any transfer yet so that’s not good…

If nobody stands out, I would like to see Robyn get some grad transfers for just one year just to provide some maturity or leadership to this young team. Even if those players are not someone that will contend for starting spots, they could help in the practice gyms and on the sideline. Then open up those scholarships for 2025. We only have one senior and possibly 6 freshmen(if Chalei enrolls early).
