Well 20 years ago( I know…that long ago…LOL), UH had 6 MBs on the team. Karin Lundqvist, Juliana Sanders, Kari Gregory, Melody Eckmeier, Maya Gustin and Lauren Duggins. And I’m not even counting Nohea Tano. So it’s not unprecedented. Yeah I would include Tano in that count. She was a middle who just was slotted at the Opp spot in the rotation. All the offensive plays that she ran were traditional MH sets. But we don't need to go that far back ... 2018 - Williams, Burns, Liva, Krug 2017 - Maglio, Williams, Burns, Howling 2015 - Magill, Maglio, Burns, Mitchem (if memory is serving me right, I don't believe Mitchem was being seriously looked at for an OH spot until the following 2016 season) And 2 of the above were under the Ah Mow era. Hmm I guess but I would like to think the middles we have and are coming in are going to be more competitive than a younger Burns, Krug, or Howling. I hate putting it this way but at least one of the players on each of those were more project/throwaway players that were not projected to see much court time in their first seasons. If we feel Maddie, Milli, or Bamis fall under that category, ok sure bring in a more experienced middle that maybe only has one year of eligibility left. Idk I think I’m just more in the camp of seeing the already recruited players that fit the positional need, develop, go through the rough patches, and grow from the experience throughout season vs telling them “next year maybe”. The only positional needs I see are at Rightside and Defensive Specialist because we have a wealth of left pins already but they could be helped with some ball control.

2009 Kaufmann and Hewitt 2011 Hewitt and Hartong 2015 Magill and Maglio My favorite MB duos Loved all of those duos! I'll add: 2002 & 2003 - Duggins and Gustin 2005 - Victoria Prince and Juliana Sanders 2006 - Juliana Sanders and Kari Gregory 2019 & 2021 - Amber Igiede and Skyler Williams I would even say that the 2023 duo of Amber and Kennedi Evans were great as well!

She was fantastic and a monster on the block. I also have a soft spot for Skyler Williams. She was hated on and her game wasn't the prettiest or the smoothest (aka her game looked cracks lol) but she gave hitting efficiency and blocking. I think if you trade out Kennedi this year or Tiffany in 2022 for Skylar and had 2023 Kate Lang setting her, Hawaii may come out on top of some of the tighter sets/matches they lost.

Jupiter and Fields have been insanely good offensive left sides for USC!

Still hurts after all this time. Jupiter was out of this world. Just unstoppable that night. Sucks because Hawaii beat them, I think the year before pretty handidly.

Prince was insanely good in 2004 as well, but being a freshman middle is hard, and Sanders was a freshman middle that year. Not holding back the team, but not great! I hope for a great freshman middle season for someone for the Wahine in 2024!

Sanders and Gregory continued to platoon the MB2 position up until 2006, I believe.

I’ve said this about 9483845 times but that loss is the most painful loss in my time of watching rainbow wahine volleyball It never should of been a regional semi But damn it was such a good game

But you're right, it was incredible game!

It is not always about size, meaning height. It is more about athleticism and Volleyball IQ. If you put 3 Kanani Danielson type players at the pins, on this recently completely Wahine Volleyball Team, and the Wahine Team would be battling to be in the Final Four.
Once you get to the NCAA Tournament, you not only have to be good, but lucky also.
What I am trying to say is, next year's Wahine Team has the players, I believe, to make it to the Regionals, with some luck. Throw in a special Transfer Player, and next year's Wahine Team could quite possibly, make it all the way to the Final 4, with some luck, along the way. That is if no returning player transfers out.
