When is Leyva coming aboard? I believe in January sometime? I thought I read somewhere that she is graduating early.

That's three back row specialists and one of them is multiyear starter. One more couldn't hurt, I suppose. I also think that Tali, with an off-season of training, could become a competent passer for the Wahine. In my opinion, she was the best floor defender on the team this season. Caylen will also improve her back row play. This season was a major step forward for Caylen with her taking on 6 rotation duties under pressure. Her floor defense had it's great moments too.

Ah Mow and company seem to be the type to honor the commitments they make to their players. It's part of the culture Hawaii is working so hard to develop. Aside from the 2021 class of Euros, Hawaii has had a pretty low transfer rate IMO. Whether freshmen recruits or transfers, it seems like they really locked in to representing the team, university, state and fans. With that said, we all know Hawaii has no scholarships to give but are actively going to use the transfer portal to strengthen its team and shore up some areas. For this offseason, I think we'll see players come into Hawaii that are local and are willing to walk on and pay in-state tuition, or grad transfers that are want to spend their last year in Hawaii. I'm positive the staff knows how to get these kinds of players academic scholarships/NIL opportunities. Also, lots of grad programs offer the academic scholarship opportunities too. We know some of Hawaii's most recent transfers have been walk ons their time here - Ham, Edmonds, Cowell, Lane, etc. The only scenario that could really change things is If a top transfer comes to Hawaii that would immediately be a go-to. For this, I have no idea. Maybe a senior with NIL deals or a local player willing to walk on a year could open a schollie. I remember reading somewhere here tha Braelyn Akana was asked to be a "walk on" her final season, but decided to forgo her last year of eligibility instead. BUT, at the same time, we rarely get go-to transfers. Rasmussen and Van Sickle are the only two that come to mind - and both were coming off injuries or part time roles with Oregon, so it wasn't a guarantee either would light it up. Would an impact game-changer want to come to Hawaii? Even just a grad transfer? As for Tufono, I don't mind local players coming home and wanting to play for the Bows. I don't think she'd come here to set. She was listed as libero this year for UCLA and we have three setters next year. I do remember Tufono's serving being really good. Quick look at her stats shows she played extensively as a DS and serving sub. She was fifth on the team in total passing receptions and second in aces. If she's willing to walk on, she'd help bolster Hawaii's serving. Her general passing numbers aren't the best so you can tell she was a converted DS and "in process"/ A terminating opposite. An experienced quality grad-transfer middle. And a couple of solid DS passers to help support Tali and Alexander if they are struggling would help to round out 2024's team nicely

Her passing had major breakdowns at times, but she was playing some quality defense, diving, contorting. Maybe not the most technical/fluid defense, but sometimes you just gotta pop it up lol.

I asked because is another L/DS the priority for next season? We will have Ikenaga and Lane back. Yes! We lose a lot of our back court, and who knows who will develop. We need to grab any good walk-on/DS we can.

We need backup/insurance in the back court. Definitely would take her. (And if she wants to compete for a hitting spot, no one would complain either) Hitting?? Did she hit in high school? She was recruited as a setter at ucla She set and played DS. She did hit from the OPP position when she was at Iolani. I forget if it was her freshman or sophomore season when she was a full-time hitter. I think she was a setter/hitter in a 6-2 in her junior season, then she was a full-time setter as a senior. She was great as a hitter in high school, but it is highly unlikely that she will ever be a hitter at the collegiate level.

Although we'll see what happens after the Spring semester. WDe Goode and Westerberg were part of the 2022 spring roster but both didn't end up back in the Fall.

Nick and Tufono started following each other Tufono basically played DS/Lib this season at UCLA, but she has a good serve We need backup/insurance in the back court. Definitely would take her. (And if she wants to compete for a hitting spot, no one would complain either) Only problem is UH is, I believe, at the maximum scholarship limit of 12, unless one of the 7 returnees (aside from 2 walkons and Ikenaga), leaves or isn’t on scholarship. The 5 new recruits are on scholarship.

Hi all! Here are Hawaii's season-ending passing numbers, courtesy of uofaGRAD (thank you!) The Wahine are losing the services of Wags, Talia and Ham but bring back Tayli, Paula and Tali. Caylen's number is giving tank but hopefully she can beef up her serve receive during the offseason, spring and summer! Wagoner: 2.17 (562 attempts) Edmonds: 2.16 (393 attempts) Ikenaga: 2.15 (302 attempts) Paula G: 2.15 (141 attempts) Ham: 2.14 (191 attempts) Hakas: 2.05 (210 attempts) Alexander: 1.82 (279 attempts)

I take it that most Hawaii fans are eager for the season to end (esp. Texas's) to see if Devin Kahahawai will enter the portal. If she does and RAM manages to grab her, dominoes will fall.

It was already mentioned in one of the transfer threads that she's in the portal or she's notified the coaching staff that she's out and transferring. But I think she might end up in California. I searched her name in the 2024 Transfer Thread since I've got a feeling that you won't bother to look it up. Even though someone spelled her name wrong. volleytalk.proboards.com/thread/96778/college-volleyball-transfers-2024?q=Devon
