Hawaii also needs to serve tougher to help their middling block have a chance at better reads. Idk why but I get more worried when it set is out of system for the other team Like it seems like it’s constantly scoring I agree. Hawaii's right side block has problems setting up properly on opponent's OOS attacks. But what opposing opposites have done to Hawaii's left side block is just nasty work and it's been this way for the past 2-3 seasons but this year is real bad. Even Amber had trouble closing when she had to go left to block the opponent's slide attack or opposite.

This teams team just lacks depth. ONE person, Paula would of made the world of a difference. Putting paula in as a starter, gives us likely Stella on the bench, and gives us a bigger block If Paula or Tali struggles, stella can come in Paula leaving late just messed things up for the staff it was hard to adjust I get annoyed but im still confident we can win the big west, and even if we dont, win out and drop ONE match in the tournament, best in the finals, I think with our RPI were in. We want SMU, San Diego and Pepperdine to keep winning The way Paula was playing in the Spring and the way Caylen has improved, they would have been the Wahine's best pair of bookend 6 rotation OHs in over 20 years. It would have been fun to see. It's too bad we're so razor thin on depth, but on the other hand we've been really lucky with injuries. As for the blocking, I think a lot starts with how the MBs can disrupt an offense or provide help and I think Caylen would have much better numbers if she were next to Kennedi or Amber again.

Since Lily and Kim (undoubtedly the best OH duo ever at UH) we've had: Houston/Boogard Houston/Mason Danielson/Ferrell Danielson/Croson Hartong/Croson Mitchem/Greeley I feel like all of those were all pretty potent LS duos.

I loved 2006 with Houston and Mason. That was like a notch under Willoughby and Kahumoku, but still so fun to watch.
Danielson and Cubi-Otineru were the outsides. Ferrell was the opposite on that 2009 team.
Greeley mostly played with Manu Olevao and then Granato. Mitchem, the best D1 player, that basically never played D1. "/

Greeley never really played outside with Granato. I mean Granato was a freshman when greeley was a sophmore but Granato was the back up 2016 greeley had surgery and was never the same the outsides that year were Granato, with a combination of Ross, Sibley in the beginning. Greeley played in Kansas State and Arizona, but her shoulder just could not hold up, and was subbed out pretty early against Arizona. Mitchem took over once she came back, I believe at the pepperdine ish games. Before that, Sibley mainly saw time.

I'm glad that the other UH fans have better memories than I do.
Anyway, the point was Hawaii has had some pretty great pin hitters, to say it's been 20+ years is selling them short. There was a time not too long ago when it was common for both LSs to hit for high percentages.
I think what we are seeing now is a combination of a bunch of factors which have not allowed the teams to materialize. I don't think it was just Guersching transferring.
We have had players decommit (Ndam-Simpson), transfer (Johnson, Leoniak, Guersching), leave early (Akana, De Goede, Westerburg).
All of these players could have been difference makers, but it is what it is. I think the bigger question is how to keep the players we get because it was less of a problem in the past, when most of the roster casualties were benchearmers and not projected starters.

I say we load up on 2026 pins and let the best ones fight it out. From what many are saying Chalei Reid might not be our next Alexander anytime soon

Anyway, yeah Miss Chalei's lower level of play is concerning but the plus side is she has the physical tools. I still expect her to be good for Hawaii!

Yea the past is nice to reminisce about but we’ve been doing a whole lot lately on this thread lol Club season starts at the end of the month so it’ll be time for new athletes to get on the coaching staff’s radar.
