Have you seen Maddie take swings at the opposite? Or even the outside pin? Yes. She post a few videos of her hitting OPP in her IG and she looked like a natural. Go see for yourself. Second clip on the right hand side. I couldn't find anything. Are you able to post it here, please?

I get the feeling we ain’t done. I think we will get either an impact MB to ease the lost of Amber and Kennedi or an Impact pin to help ease the lost of Riley /Kendra. I feel our pins are fine with Tali, Stella, Paula and Caylen. Getting an experienced MB would be 1st on my wish list. Is that MB from Indiana interested in coming here? A lot of UH volleyballers(beach, women and men) seem to be following her. She’s from Texas. I’m assuming Kate is familiar or knows her. Every time a middle is suggested, I have to point out again that I don’t remember the last time the program had carried more than 3 middle blockers without at least one being a projected pin transitioning player. Well 20 years ago( I know…that long ago…LOL), UH had 6 MBs on the team. Karin Lundqvist, Juliana Sanders, Kari Gregory, Melody Eckmeier, Maya Gustin and Lauren Duggins. And I’m not even counting Nohea Tano. So it’s not unprecedented.

I think the film of Maddie swinging on the right was just in Rotation 5 as the M1, not actually as an opposite. Could be wrong though but if that’s all it is and she doesn’t have the off blocker defensive awareness and instincts, I’d rather not.
I say go with the middles we have, get the freshman tested early in their careers, and put the focus on a truly impact Rightside. Otherwise who do you redshirt out of Maddie, Milli, or Jacyn? Because having 4 middles and one of them relegated to the bench seems like a crap deal to me.

I remember Nohea Tano playing OPP when she cam into the program as a MB. I’m just saying we have options and not a roster full of MBs who are nothing but MBs. The MBs are athletic enough to play other positions.

If you watch that clip closely, a MB(#17) went up hard and the left hitter(#22) was ready to swing but the set was to the right so I’m assuming Maddie was the OPP in that rotation. It wasn’t similar to what Amber did a few times this year. Maddie was actually playing OPP there in that highlights. Might have been something the coaches did to experiment but she did hit from the right and looked pretty good IMHO. The second one, which was from her club team, might have been a MH1 hitting from rotation 5 but the first one was not.

Mokihana Tufono hits the portal and everyone is suggesting she come home to Hawaii. Why? Is she an upgrade to Kate Lang, Jackie Matias or Adrianna Arquette? http://instagram.com/p/C0iPyfavP-P

Dave Shoji used to have a ton of DS's too.

Savannah Kjohede coming here to Hawaii makes sense, She will get a chance to start. She will play for a conference contender and she will have the chance to play in post season as Hawaii has been to post season in 30 consecutive year. I would think being able to play post season is something she would want before her career ends. Hawaii will give her that chance. So I looked her up on the Indiana site. Isn't she a senior whose already played 4 years? Has she indicated that she has a 5th (Covid?) year to play and that she's interested in transferring?

Mili with one year of weights and practice gym I think she would be pretty lethal, and will definitely be doing big things for us like Amber but even if she wasn’t redshirt Mili should also still be good for us so it’s a hard choice if that would be the case.

I think there may be questions about Bamis’ blocking. She looked lost in a lot of matches she did play in. She has enough athleticism to make it work offensively but we are going to need a blocking presence at the net like we had with Kennedi. I think next years team may be more pin oriented. Caylen, Paula, Tali and Stella will probably be the strength of our team so our MBs are going to have to block or touch balls. We won’t be feeding them like we did with Amber. Kjolhede had 117 blocks playing in the BIG10. That’s something we could use.
