Out of curiosity, do pro teams typically only play a single libero, or do they have a defensive specialist too? Like in college, you can have one or two defensive specialists in addition to your libero because you have enough substitutions for that. But I know the pros have fewer subs. honestly it depends on the team. I would say normally, most teams dress two liberos, using one. some teams will have their main libero and then dress someone they're not going to play (4th middle/oh) as the libero so they can use the reserve libero as a DS. This is what conegliano did with Kathryn Plummer. this is the rarest but some teams will have a libero for passing, another for defense. Kojima has played both of those roles for the Japan national team. Thanks. I guess I'll understand better when I actually see how it plays out in matches.

What you’ll likely see is a back row sub for three rotations toward the end of a set, where a DS (either a libero in a regular jersey, or another OH) comes in for the weaker passing OH. For example if Lush were on a team with Plummer she may come in for three rotations in the back row, late in a set, while Plummer sits. Plummer gets just one re-entry to the set, so she then re-enters when rotating to the front row and finishes the set out, whether she rotates back to the back row again or not. That’s probably the most common/easiest use of a DS in pro leagues IMO. Of course in real life Plummer’s team does something more complicated sometimes, but that won’t be utilized much from others IMO. (You could bring Lush in for a middle, and utilize the libero to take Plummer’s back row rotations until Lush has to sub back out for the middle to re-enter.) (Yes I realize Lush and Plummer won’t be on the same team but using names makes it easier to visualize)

RJP and Casanova play Oppo Dani has always played OH Dani has played opposite for three of her past pro teams (Full time in Japan, part time in Italy/AU) More so than Roni has anyways. They can't keep Hoffman off court (and Dani is probably better than Heidy anyways)
