I don’t see why you are so pessimistic. By all metrics you should be, out of the gate, better than you were at anytime last year. Better setting, better back court, better OPP, better in the middle… with the exception of Louisville, you should have a better roster-and you get to play them at home. That early ooc will only serve to give the new players an instant indoctrination to top 10 college volleyball. If you are truly a top 4 B1G team, you really should expect no more than one loss on the non-con. Your team deserves this level of schedule… 🏐 That *may* be true in time, but it always takes time for new pieces to gel on the court against real competition in the season. This start to the season is brutal. Talk to the staff - what you think isnt true - the new players have had all spring, tour and summer to know each other - they are quite comfortable that this is an experienced group

It's official Kendall Northern commits to PSU! Pretty awesome class for KSC and the coaching staff.

All four 2026 recruits are supposedly ranked in the top 40 with Kendall Northern coming in at #26, Danielle Whitmire at #19, Finley Krystkowiak at #12. Haley Burgdorf is listed at #68 on her recruiting write up on dig Nittany but listed as under #40 on Kendall Northern’s write up

This is true in literally every sport. You have to practice, you should scrimmage... but none of that compares to actual, live, real matches that are part of your record against teams who are also trying to perform well for their season.

And yet I reflect on the Penn State women’s soccer team in their first game against an 8th ranked Texas tech team that has not allowed more than 3 goals in a game since 2021 and returned most of their team. Penn state on the other hand, had to replace many key pieces as they had a lot of players drafted into the NWSL, several that just graduated. They had a lot of new pieces on the pitch, and yet won 4-0 and to be honest, while watching the match, their defense was outstanding and could have easily won 6-0. I’m still optimistic on this season.

It *can* happen, as you just said, but you can't bank on that when you're replacing so many pieces, including with people who have zero real college match experience.

Most of this year's roster has been together since January, which you are not accounting for. That's a luxury we haven't had in previous years.

But nothing substitutes for real matches that count for your record. We'll see soon enough. Hopefully the team has a very easy learning curve. There's no time for warm up with this schedule.
