I love Rose, but it was clear he had lost his fire the last couple years he was in charge. It seemed to me that he was ready for retirement. I can't blame him, after 43 years. KSC is putting in the work. A quote from RR as to some of the reasons he decided to retire: Speaking of his decision to retire, Coach Russ Rose stated that two of his biggest problems had gotten to be overly involved parents and whiny players. I had a feeling that the parents thing and whiny players were a factor and then the transfer portal became a way out. I also think that RR wasn’t real fond of the portal concept and didn’t deal with it real well. It’s no secret that he wouldn’t baby his players. He told them the truth, both good and bad, and in reality, this is what was able to make them great players. He wanted them to be great. Unfortunately, in today’s world, I’m not sure that works as well any more. It’s too easy to change away from criticism. Nobody likes to hear where they made mistakes and what they can do to correct them. Although no one would ever admit it, I would not be surprised that in the last few years for RR, other coaches used the perceived decline in PSU performance along with RR’s age and coaching style was used against him in recruiting. One thing Katie can use: “want to play in the tournament? We can pretty much guarantee we’re going. We’ve never missed it” Lastly, I think the last few years of RR’s tenure, team chemistry just didn’t seem too good for some reason to me. After he retired, the players, instead of playing that last year at PSU to make that transition to a new coach successful?, a dedication to RR?, they all left. Retired, transferred, whatever. That’s very telling to me. I think last year’s chemistry, by year’s end was really high. This year is good and getting better. In a sport like volleyball, I believe team chemistry is extremely important. I think this team’s chemistry is pretty good now and will be very good by mid season. I’d like to see a little more competitive fire during the match. If you watch any of the match’s from the championship years, you’ll easily see it. That excitement is something that Markley and Falduto seem to bring into the game with them. That fire can ignite the others, but they need to absorb it and feel it too. I also think KSC is doing a great job, has put together a very good staff, and team. I think if this team can get to the final four, it will be a tremendous boost to recruiting. I’m rambling now, so I’ll quit.

If I was in charge of the rankings, This would be what I would put.
1. Stanford: they beat Wisconsin & Minnesota at a neutral site in Milwaukee. They followed that up by beating #24 Marquette. Those are good wins. 2. Penn State: they have good, on the road wins at Kentucky and Tennessee. They added a beat down at home of #4 Louisville. Those are also good wins 3. Pitt: good win on the road at Oregon, but pretty pedestrian wins agains relatively weak competition otherwise. However, still undefeated. 4:Nebraska: Good win over Kentucky, Loss to a good SMU team, pretty pedestrian wins against other competition 5. Louisville: Other than a lackluster performance against PSU, Good wins against Wisconsin & Tennessee. 6.Kentucky 7. Purdue 8. Florida 9. Creighton 10.Texas

It legitimately just did not occur to me about the likelihood of people likening it to Pitt when I used it to register at FightOnState nearly 20 years ago. For years people confused me with a Pitt fan.

This info is 2nd and 3rd hand at my end so I won't name any names as I can't be sure of the accuracy of the info.

Don't forget the infamous quote about one of his all american players "not wanting to play volleyball that day" at some point during their season. Crazy to think about

In the end, Russ is the 🐐 and we were fortunate to have him lead PSU and almost every player would agree.

For years people confused me with a Pitt fan. Way back in my college days, I'd get together with other students to play board games, often war games. I would prefer to use either very elite units (this tank, when playing Squad Leader), or really crappy ones (the CR 42 biplane when playing Air Force). There was no in-between with me. I had a very deep appreciation for this tank from playing that game, but *not* for the German side and the ideals they stood for. I always thought you were a Pennsylvania fan, and thus supported all schools in the state, even when the top two were rivals of each other.
